HONORING THE ANCESTORS: The Case for Metagenetics and Folk Consciousness

Once again, Samhain, or “Halloween” as it is known in modern society, approaches. The ancient pagan Europeans understood this to be a time when “the Veil” was particularly thin, and the spirits of the Otherworld were easier to communicate with. This was also a time when the dead were honored. People would pay tribute to their ancestors and commune with them. This was a time of feasting and celebration in honor of those who came before us- those who made it possible for us to be here now. It is a time when we meditate on how it is that our ancestors never really leave us.

Since the “discovery” of DNA by Sir Francis Crick (with the aid of entheogens) and the subsequent breakthroughs in the field of genetics, we have learned much about what makes us the way we are. Skin color, hair color, eye color, height, bone structure, musculature, even susceptibility to certain diseases (both mental and physical) can be gleaned from genetics. However, from a spiritual perspective, DNA may seem like little more than just a linear blueprint for this incarnation, to be discarded once the body dies, and we go to wherever or whatever it is that we understand the afterlife to entail. But what if it is more than that? What if there is a spiritual component to our DNA?

In the ancient world, the understanding of reincarnation was common not only in India and the Orient, but also among Europeans and the people of the Middle East as well. The great Greek philosopher, mathematician, initiate, and teacher Pythagoras stated:

“Souls never die, but always on quitting one abode pass to another. All things change, nothing perishes. The soul passes hither and thither, occupying now this body, now that… As a wax is stamped with certain figures, then melted, then stamped anew with others, yet it is always the same wax. So, the Soul being always the same, yet wears at different times different forms.”

The knowledge of reincarnation was also prevalent among the Celtic and Teutonic peoples of Northern Europe as well. In his writings on the Gallic Celts of what is now France, Roman leader Julius Caesar wrote:

“The principal point of their doctrine is that the soul does not die and that after death it passes from one body into another….. a firm belief in the indestructibility of the human soul, which, merely passes at death from one tenement to another; for by such doctrine alone, they say, which robs death of all its terrors, can the highest form of human courage be developed.”

In Native American tribal culture, there is the understanding of what is referred to asBlood Memory. This is essentially the understanding that traditional knowledge and memory is stored in the genetic memory of one’s own body. It is essentially the embodiment of reincarnation within experiences of spirituality, and is representative of the linkage between ancestral life, spirit and tribal/genetic memory transmission. According to the Saginaw Chippewa:

“Blood memory is described as our ancestral (genetic) connection to our language, songs, spirituality, and teachings. It is the good feeling that we experience when we are near these things.”

African shaman Chief Amachi Apetor Buaru speaks of what is referred to as the “Chain of Ancestral Connection”:

“Your ancestors exist in many in different realities. First, they exist physically inside your family lineage (blood and genes). Your bloodline and genetics connect you to your ancestors, to those who have gone before regardless of your ethnicity. Secondly, your ancestors exist in the spiritual world in and around you. Thirdly, they exist within the hidden subdivisions of nature and in between moments that connect to the fabric of our realities. This is why our ancestors can so easily influence our affairs.

One way to visualize your ancestral connection is to observe nature. Let’s take the tree for example. If you are a branch or a leaf on the tree, your ancestors are the roots. As the root of your tree, your ancestors provide a link back to your original source – the earth. It is the land, the spirit powers and the soul of the earth which is the home of your star or soul seed, or what is traditionally known to the Dagombas as your Noliwuni (your personal god or spiritual blueprint in nature). Your Noliwuni is rooted in the land and natural environment around the planet and beyond.

To understand your star and its connection to the earth, to you and your ancestry, imagine a wheel spinning very rapidly. As the wheel moves faster and faster, the spokes on the wheel begin to appear stationary. However, we know they are not. They are in fact moving so fast they are able to occupy more than one place at a time. Your ancestry , the Wunonam, your star, even natural landscapes and land forms such as rivers, mountains, forests, etc. are also said in traditional lore to be moving so fast that they too are able to occupy more than one place at a time including the space within your being, while at the same time existing and appearing to be stationary to the human eye.

Our grandfather and grandmothers (the NYABA) teach that we are all children of the land, that we are all children of nature. Your ancestors therefore, connect you to the world soul and spiritual powers of the earth and the spiritual components of yourself that exist in nature. Moreover, the ancestral teachings of Timm and Bukata ( Timm = roots herbs, traditional medicine, magic; Bukata = the world soul and spirit powers of the Earth) and Nature Identity teaches that the secrets to many of our abilities, powers and characteristics, psychic powers and personality traits originate from nature.

This is the reason why calling on your ancestors is the first step to developing a connection to nature and the spiritual abilities/powers of your family star and the characteristics and personality traits of nature. When you call on your ancestors you begin to tap into the roots of your family tree – the gifts, traits, spiritual powers and abilities which your ancestors developed from their connection to nature.

As the roots of the tree, your Ancestors draw the spiritual nutrients from the land and from nature, providing what we call IN-formation, which is knowledge extending into the realms of the spiritual, and OUT-formation or knowledge outside of the commonly known and into the unknown of nature.”

This understanding of a sort of ‘Ancestral Blood Memory” was also prevalent among the Norse and Germanic tribes of ancient Europe as well. In the modern revival of Norse Paganism, or “Asatru” this idea has resurfaced. In his article entitled “Metagenetics”, Asatru leader, Stephen McNallen wrote about what he referred to as “metagenetics” which he referred to as “the hypothesis that there are spiritual or metaphysical implications to physical relatedness among humans which correlate with, but go beyond, the known limits of genetics.”

McNallen went on to characterize five different aspects of metagenetics:

Relatedness – It describes a connection, independent of time and space, which links human beings. (The general principles governing metagenetics also apply to the animals, plants, other organic kingdoms, and indeed all self-organizing systems to include crystals and molecules. Metagenetics, though, is a subset of this grander scheme and applies specifically to humans and their spirituality.)

Similarity – We are used to things being related in time and space, but this is not essential to the operation of metagenetics. Instead, metagenetics says that people who are genetically related to each other share a non-physical bond that is not dependent on location or time, and that the closeness of that bond is determined by the degree of similarity. Our language unconsciously expresses that idea, as we talk about being “close” or “distant” relatives.

Hierarchy This is implied by the idea of similarity, described above. All humans are related, and for that matter it is true that we are “kin to all life,” as some folks are fond of saying. However, we are not equally related to all. Within the broad circle that is the human family there is a collection of concentric circles representing the many Folksouls – and even this is no neat and tidy arrangement. Individual families, clans and tribes have their own subdivisions or “mini-Folksouls,” and the whole is dynamic and shifting.

Holism The components that make up the individual human being are best seen as comprising a whole. This is typically represented as body, mind, and spirit, though the psychosomatic (mind-body) complex in traditional Germanic lore is considerably more complicated than this. People commonly acknowledge that the body and mind affect each other, but fewer of them understand that the body (to include the brain, the nervous system, and the apparatus of heredity) is also connected to the spiritual or religious.

Spirituality Relatedness and similarity influence the temperament, values, psychic connection, probable reincarnation, and the general tone of spirituality or religion. Some of these things – temperament and values, in particular – may have their origin in the actual coding of DNA, but the mechanism for the other connections may not be within the realm of the physical sciences as they are presently understood.

The idea presented is that our “past lives” would have been born through our family tree; our “Tree of Life” or DNA. In an article entitled “Genetic Memory: The Scientific Basis for Past Life Regression” put out by the Quest Institute highlights the work of neurologist Sandra Pena de Ortiz and her work on genetic instinctual memory in animals:

“Pena believes that permanent memories are stored in altered genes. She and her colleagues believe that our DNA creates ‘memory molecules,’ new novel proteins, from a unique blueprint that could be formed by neurons rearranging their DNA in response to each new experience.”

The author went on to ask “If memories are stored in our DNA (and as 97% of it has no obvious function there is plenty of room), and we pass on our DNA to our children, who do the same thing with their children, could this be how the instincts of the chick and calf were passed on? If memory is stored in the genes is that how the flat worm’s tail can grow a new brain with an old memory? And finally, if they have access to instinctive memory (as we do – think of the grip response in a child when it thinks it’s being dropped), is it possible to access other ancestral memories located in our DNA? Could this be an explanation for past-life regression? When clients regress to memories from a previous life, is it actually them accessing something present in their genome blueprint, an ancestral experience?”

human dnaThere have been scientists, researchers as well as clairvoyants who have postulated that the 97% of human DNA that appears to have no obvious function, i.e. junk DNA, is in fact a repository of past life memory. It has been said that DNA in fact acts as a receiver for the cosmic blueprint of which we are a microcosm. This would imply that DNA, and likewise genetics, are rooted in primarily the etheric, psychic and spirit realms. This would also mean that our past lives were more than likely the lives of one or more of our ancestors- people in our genetic line who proceeded us.

While this may mean that the likelihood of everyone being a reincarnated Cleopatra or Genghis Kahn is not great, it does not narrow the “past-life pool” as much as we may initially think. Remember, the gene pool of most modern-day people (especially Americans) is fairly broad, spanning over millennia. For example, if I was to apply the metagenetic theory of reincarnation, in my past life I could have been someone who lived in Scotland, England, France or any number of different people who live in the U.S. or elsewhere who shared some common ancestor with me at some point in time. This makes the potential “past me(s)” a seemingly endless pool of possibilities.

While I’m sure there are instances where reincarnations may deviate from this for whatever reason, but for the most part, this seems to be the most logical and probable vehicle for the process of human soul reincarnation to occur. Again, I don’t see this as taking a “materialist” approach because it would seem that DNA is potentially the bridge between objective and subjective realities- the level of matter and the level of consciousness.

Now there is a bit of controversy to this whole metagenetic/blood memory theory of reincarnation and that is the “politically incorrect” notion that we are not equally related to or interconnected with all, even on a spiritual level. If we follow the line of thinking that there is this genetic, familial component to reincarnation and then by extension, there is inevitably going to be a racial component to it as well, which tends to make people a little uncomfortable.

Renowned psychoanalyst and mystic, Carl Jung saw the archetypes he spoke of as being inherited and specific to certain peoples. Jung stated that these archetypes were not culturally transmitted but were in fact inherited – that is to say, genetic. Jung linked them with the physiological instincts and stated that, “Because the brain is the principal organ of the mind, the collective unconscious depends directly upon the evolution of the brain”.

A good example of this can be seen in the personification of the planet/god Mercury. Among the Greeks and Romans, Mercury had the role of messenger of the Gods. However, among the Nordic and Germanic peoples of Northern Europe, Mercury or “Woden” as he was known was the king of the gods. This was most likely due to the fact that the energies and influence of Mercury was different at the time and place the Northern Europeans occupied than it was in the Mediterranean. The closer the people in race and geographic locale, the less obvious the archetypal differences will be.

This idea of a sort of “racial collective unconscious” means that certain archetypes, or expressions of Divine Forces in a particular people and place, belong to certain groups of people and not others. Again, this notion really upsets politically correct notions that have been taped onto spirituality and religion in the past 50 years or so. Religions like Christianity and the New Age Movement are espoused “universal” religions and belief systems. I’m sure some people reading this may view themselves as “universalists”. I would say that I am a universalist who is grounded in “folk consciousness”. Now what does that mean?

First I should clarify that I’m not just talking about Unitarian Universalists; I’m meaning a much broader definition. Essentially a “universal” religion is one that does not require a specific pedigree (family, tribe, race, etc.) to become a member. Christianity is an example, Islam is an example, and Buddhism is an example, although it differs in structure and “recruitment” methods from the two “Abrahamic” religions.

I have found the core truth of universalism to lie in the fact that the celestial bodies (Sun, Moon, Planets, and Stars) affect every living being on the face of the planet on a physical and physiological level; a mental and psychological level; and on an etheric and spiritual level. The Sun shines on everyone, regardless of whom they are or where they are. These interactions between humanity and the Heavens are encoded into our DNA. This is why all humans understand the universal religions at a fundamental level and are attracted to them. At a fundamental level, all the spiritual paths and traditions have the same deep mystery of the cosmos lying at its center; however, this universal element is in turn shaped by the groups of people involved in expressing it as well as the lands they came from. This is where the folk and race element comes in.

646785The Italian philosopher and occultist, Julius Evola referred to this as the “race of the soul”. In the article, Julius Evola’s Concept of Race, author Michael Bell explains:

“Evola describes the ‘race of the soul’ as the collective mental and behavioral traits of a human stock, and the outward ‘style’ through which these are exhibited. Every race has essentially the same mental predispositions; all human peoples, for example, desire sexual satisfaction from a mate. However, each human stock manifests these inner instincts externally in a different way, and it is this ‘style,’ as Evola terms it, which is the key component of the ‘race of the soul.’”

Human beings are a product of their environment. Pretty much everyone agrees that this statement is true to one degree or other. However, I’m going to extend this past the familial/societal qualifiers typically used and point out that our natural environment shapes us as well. This shaping is recorded in the DNA and passed on from lifetime to lifetime. The spiritual component of this environmental shaping is reflected in the spiritual traditions of the folk. This folkish element is what honors a specific group’s unique elements- their understanding of their relationships with the lands they’re from and the lands their ancestors are from. The work or scientists like Anatole Klyosov and others show strong evidence that the “Out of Africa” theory may be seriously flawed and that there may be in fact multiple origin points for the different races of man, meaning that racial differences may indeed be more than “social constructs”.

AdamkadmonIt is my understanding that the Divine Human Blueprint- Adam Kadmon the cosmic man, existed in a non-physical state after being brought forth from the Mind of the Creator and the Creative Process that It initiated. Adam Kadmon began to multiply from itself and descend into denser and denser levels of existence until it finally manifested on the physical plane of Earth. As Adam Kadmon descends into the Earth plane, his essence and reflection is molded as well as somewhat distorted by the Angels and Archons that act as filters for the extension of consciousness and as a sort of management class to keep charge of the dissemination as well as enforcement of the Laws of Nature and Creation.

Each region of the Earth that Adam Kadmon incarnated on had overarching qualities unique to that area of the Earth and how the forces of Nature and the Cosmos interacted there. The common basic elements of a race (the largest and broadest definition of a biological family) would be shaped by those interactions in the place the human blueprint was first incarnated on Earth (again, there is evidence that the races did not all incarnate at the same place at the same time and there are some we may not even know about). Subsequently, as peoples migrate, they will pick up different elements of the lands they inhabit and bear children upon. This relationship is encoded in the DNA and the archetypes that reside in it with them.

Each person brings a unique perspective that the Creator uses to better understand the Creation. This perspective is molded by the individual, familial, tribal, cultural and yes, racial memories that are living through the physical as well as the spiritual component of their DNA- the carrier of the soul memory.  Rudolf Steiner referred to this as a“Folk Spirit”:

“In every people there is a guiding Folk-Spirit. As I have said in my book, Theosophy, “Folk-Spirit” is not merely an abstract term. When one speaks today of the French people and the rest, what does this suggest to the materialistic thinking of today? It suggests an accumulation of some 42 millions of human beings in the West of Europe — a pure abstraction: the traits and qualities of the people in question are a very secondary consideration. But it really is not so! Just as the seed lives in the plant, so something seed-like exists, which lives in the spirit of a people and then unfolds. A Spirit, a real Being, lives and works in the whole people.”

This is why Europeans will often instinctively gravitate towards archetypes and symbols of a Celtic and Germanic nature. This is evident by the enormous popularity of things like the Renaissance Faire and TV shows like “Vikings” and “Game of Thrones”, particularly among those of White European lineage. Similarly things can be said of the effectiveness African symbolism and archetypes among those of African descent. We instinctively know this, but are told we should ignore and reject this because we are not supposed to look at race unless it is to show how someone is being oppressed or treated “unfairly”.

I think it is in error and is to the detriment of the spiritual development of people on Earth to not have grounding in Folk Consciousness. This is not to say that archetypes from other races can’t speak to us, but that as a general rule, we will resonate most with those spiritual traditions that have some sort of ancestral familiarity. We are naturally going to be better equipped to understand the symbols and archetypes that are of our own folk heritage. Myself, I am Scots-Gaelic, French, English as well as a little bit Native American. The folkish paths I have embraced are primarily of my Celtic side, but I have also resonated with Native American tradition as well with its well-articulated reverence for the Natural World, and am beginning to develop understanding of the Teutonic element as well.

Some may read that and attempt to counter by pointing out how the spirituality of the Yogis and Buddhists of India and the Orient have become so popular and seem to resonate so well among people of White European descent. The answer to this more than likely lies in the Aryans who migrated into India and established Hinduism (which was the progenitor of Buddhism) in India in the ancient past. These were for lack of a better word “white people” that established the spirituality that is practiced and guarded by “non-white” peoples of Asia. They too have a heritage with this faith due to the role the land takes in creating a spiritual transmission.

Our ultimate goal here is to find our way back to the Creator while taking in and being perfected by the experiences our soul has here on Earth. Now, if we were trying to go back somewhere, would it not make sense to retrace the steps of our soul so we remember who we truly are in the first place? This is the value I see in folk consciousness and folk spirituality. This is something I feel should be cherished and honored, as it is nothing less than the history of our soul. Why would we not wish to ground ourselves in that kind of legacy? Why would we not want to celebrate the story of how this version of the Adam Kadmon incarnated and thrived on Earth?

If we deny our folk spirit, we rob ourselves of our ability to utilize the clues hidden in our soul’s unique journey of incarnation, which can be used as signposts for our destiny- the unique contribution the soul makes toward the Great Work. This idea of “soul purpose” or destiny holds true on each level or grouping of soul incarnation: the familial, tribal, and racial levels in addition to the universal human level. All of these levels are important to recognize, understand, work with, and honor for us to get a full understanding of ourselves and the totality of our soul’s purpose here on Earth. There is a reason we are incarnated with the family, tribal and racial lineages we are. The spiritual connection and psychic bond between family, both positive and negative, is undeniable. Examples of psychic bonds and connections between family members are well documented and numerous.

This why so much importance was put on lineage and ancestry and heritage in traditional cultures, which is something we have lost in modern society. The world we live in and the ideals we are taught are what I can only describe as a sort of rootless hyper-individualistic collectivism. This philosophy is that each person is an individual just like everyone else, and that it is this individuality that creates a sort of collective “sameness”. This philosophy seeks to make all beings indifferentiable and rootless, much like the systems of international corporate materialism that created it. With no conscious link or loyalty to their ancestors or their ancestral lands, which is the journey of the soul, these individuals are rendered susceptible to others who may seek to create identities for them.

Now there are exceptions to every rule, and the paths of human DNA and lineage are many-varied and divergent from time to time. I am not saying that it is not possible to have spiritual bonds with others that are not of the same folk. But what I am trying to articulate is that Folk consciousness is an essential component of who we are as it provides us with power and allows us to tap into the energies of our ancestors and our brothers and sisters of blood and spirit. It allows us to consciously tap into the energies of the Earth that created us. It gives us understanding of where we’ve been, so we know where we’re going. I feel it is a grave mistake for us to discount or trivialize these things.

I would argue that one of the reasons Jews have been able to maintain the levels of success and influence in the world they have is due to a rootedness in their mutual “Jewishness” and the tribal and racial cohesion that this sort of awareness creates. Unlike the other two Abrahamic religions, Judaism is not a universalist religion and this is arguably to their advantage. On the seemingly opposite side, we have the idea of a European or Aryan “racial/tribal/cultural cohesion” which was also one of the secrets to the popularity and success of National Socialist philosophy throughout Europe prior to World War II, and is beginning to make a resurgence today.

9110232While we are all extensions of the ONE who is ALL and in ALL things, we are at the same time individuated and unique perspectives of that Force. This unique individuation manifests on the level of not just the individual, but also the family, the tribe and the race. This unique individuation is essential for the alchemy of the Great Work. Understanding our role in the individuation process is pivotal, and Folk consciousness plays a vital role in that. It is important for all of us to recognize and honor the legacy of our ancestors and our folk because it is the legacy of our soul.

THE THINNING OF THE VEIL

I recently heard an interview by an American investigative journalist named Linda Moulton Howe (interestingly that happens to be my mother’s father’s surname) who specializes in the paranormal. She spoke of an email she recently received from a woman named Cinde Shilf, a licensed massage therapist out of Chicago:

“Dear Linda,

I have known about your work for almost 9 years now. I am a Coast-to-Coast listener, and the other day I heard your radio broadcast about investigating the alien hybrid from Los Angeles (August 27th Coast). I felt maybe you’re the one to share my story. Maybe you have some answers for me from something else you have heard.

This one particular lady comes in for massage — it has to be around the year 2005-2006. She was first time with me, and I think also to the establishment. Seemed like a “gold coast lady” who was well-dressed in a nice way, probably designer clothing, very well put together, nice haircut, highlights, makeup and expensive handbag. … she is face up while I’m working on her neck when all of a sudden I’m shocked by the fact my attention has turned to start thinking about Grey aliens. …

almost as if she heard me because at that point a bizarre event occurred at that split second, when almost a holographic glitch switched her image into an alien lying there, like a Grey. My arm hairs raised up on point and in my mind I’m thinking, ‘Oh my god, you are an alien!’”

Apparently this had not been the first time she had heard of this sort of thing happening. Back in the mid-1980s Ms. Howe had received a call from a massage therapist out of Boulder, Colorado:

“She said she had been massaging a man’s chest when all of a sudden a “thing” that looked like a Grey alien came rising out of the man’s body in a kind of translucent form that she could partially see through and could see her hands stopped on the man’s chest beneath the rising Grey translucent body. She realized she could not move or yell out or do anything. But whatever the Grey thing was, it kept rising and suddenly she could move again like normal. The man had not reacted to anything and seemed unaware that a Grey non-human had just floated up out of his body.”

Shortly after that she heard a similar experience from a male massage therapist out of Memphis, Tennessee, and then nothing until the woman from Chicago this past September. At that point she states she has received upwards of 100 contacts of people who have detailed similar experiences in massage or reiki or similar type settings. However, she seemed perplexed as to why this might be happening now. She didn’t know why these “aliens” were making these sorts of appearances more frequently then they had in the past. When she stated this, a light bulb went off inside my head and I thought; “It’s the thinning of the Veil”.

The ancient mystery traditions as well as the sacred indigenous traditions have long said that reality is the descent of Spirit into matter (somewhat of a simplification, but it works), and that all things are made up of that Prime Spirit. That is to say incredibly fine substance becoming increasingly dense. The Hermetic tradition illustrates this wonderfully in the work known as “The Kybalion”. Mankind is the epitome of this reality. This is to say as the universal Mind extends itself from its Source point of “emptiness” it becomes increasingly denser until it reaches a state of solid matter.

This manifestation is done through Light vibration. The first manifestation of the Source was Light that vibrates at an inconceivably high frequency. As this Light expanded outward from its Source, the frequency vibrated at a slower rate, and the Light became duller, causing the expressions created by this Light and its Source to become denser. This densest arm extended outward from the Source point is where we reside, or to be more specific, where our PHYSICAL bodies reside.

celestial-spheresHowever, between Prime Spirit and the dense matter of the world we know, there are a multitude of levels of existence along the scale of physical density and vibration. If you were going to group it, I would use the categories described by British clairvoyant and seer, Chris Thomas who refers to “non-physical”, “semi-physical” and “physical” dimensions and races. These other levels, or “worlds”, vibrate in a different manner then our own, and are just as populated with “beings” as this one is. However, there is a perceived “separation” that exists between these levels, especially that of the dense physical world where we reside.

This separation is referred to as “the Veil”. In truth, this “Veil” is really less of a covering and more of a frequency or set of frequencies much like that of a radio. The majority of the “radios” (i.e. brains) that we humans use to perceive the world around us have a certain number of “stations” we are able to regularly tune into. These typically tend to fall into the realms of physical sight, sound, hearing, touch, taste, and smell, as well as the realms of mainstream thought and propaganda that serve to tell us what we are seeing and feeling.

There are those among us who either through inborn capabilities or learned techniques are capable of tuning into a larger “band” of frequencies that most people. I met one such individual when I was living in Maine. His name was Ahura Z. and he was a natural telepath, who was able to see and perceive things that most people cannot. In my talks with him he spoke of how when he was a child, he just assumed everyone could see what he saw. It wasn’t until later on he found that this was indeed not the case, and met a teacher who taught him how to control what he saw and heard. However, the truth is that all human beings are able to tune into vastly more than we are commonly aware of. In his book, “The Doors of Perception”, Aldous Huxley stated:

“[E]ach one of us is potentially Mind at Large. But in so far as we are animals, our business at all costs is to survive. To make biological survival possible, Mind at Large has to be funneled through the reducing valve of the brain and nervous system. What comes out at the other end is a measly trickle of the kind of consciousness which will help us to stay alive on the surface of this particular planet.”

Part of my training was to meet with a senior student of his and to study the book by the same name by Dion Fortune, a prominent British female occultist, author, psychologist, teacher, artist, and mystic. Fortune was a key figure in the early 20th century occult revival. In the book, Fortune talked at length about the realms and inhabitants on the other side of “the Veil”:

“There are other forms of life as well as ours whose sphere evolution impinges upon the earth. In the realm of folklore we constantly meet with the idea of intercourse between the human and the fairy kingdoms; of the marriage of a human being with a fairy spouse, or the theft of a child by the fairies, and impish changeling being left in its place. We shall be rash if we assume that an extensive body of folk-belief is entirely without foundation or fact.”

evil-fairies--large-msg-1119226751-2After the Second World War, with the advent of the atomic and space ages, there were a rash of what became known as “close encounters” with what were thought to be off-world or “extraterrestrial” beings. There were reports of people being visited; taken aboard crafts; waking to see beings standing beside their beds; and even reporting touching and probing of a seemingly sexual nature, and an idea of the beings using humans to mate with. Another common trait seemed to be the claim that the victim was in a state of paralysis upon being in contact with these beings.

In the 1950s, atomic space alien sci-fi stories were all the rage, and the mass media pumped it out as fast as the mass-mind would consume it. However, I tend to be in the camp that the whole “alien” narrative that is becoming more and more mainstream is not what it seems. There are a lot of potential facets I see to this; from a cover up of secret technologies (i.e. “Tesla-tech” and the “Nazi Bell”), to psychological operations or “psy-ops” and secret experimentation by secretive agencies complete with drugging and even sexual abuse. I, as well as many others think there is a reason this alien meme is being pushed on us the way it is, and I feel it may have to do with preparing us for an “upgrade” (Project Blue Beam?) in the psychological programming of the mass mind that has been in full swing since World War II.  We could even at some point see a potentially staged alien invasion, I can’t say for sure.

That being said, I do think something else is also at play here as well that is not necessarily “human”, and I think this factor has been around for a long, long time. In his essay, “The Deep Dwellers: Subsurface Inhabitants in Folklore, Myth and Literature”, paranormal researcher William M. Mott writes:

“The scientific principle known as “Occam’s Razor” would indicate that, given the choice between a staggering variety of beings from a staggering variety of worlds lost in interstellar space, or a naturally (or even artificially) diverse variety of lifeforms which have sprung from one ecological system, (hence, for instance, the mostly-bipedal, two-handed, two-legged, two-winged, four-flippered configurations, all variations on the earthly vertebrate template), the latter would have to be the most rational and logical choice for a theory of origin. No, they are coming and going at will from some place very near at hand, and the circumstantial evidence would seem to indicate that place to be the hidden bowels of our own planet.”

In the 1691 manuscript, The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns, and Fairies: A Study in Folklore and Psychical Research, Rev. Robert Kirk, Minister of Aberfoyle, Scotland describes these subterranean beings:

“These Siths, or Fairies, they call Sleagh Maith, or the Good People, it would seem, to prevent the dint of their ill attempts, (for the Irish use to bless all they fear harm of) and are said to be of a middle nature between Man and Angel, as were Daemons thought to be of old; if intelligent studious spirits, and light changeable bodies (like those called Astral) somewhat of the nature of a condensed cloud, and best seen in twilight. These bodies be so pliable through the subtlety of the spirits that agitate them, that they can appear or disappear at pleasure…

Their bodies of congealed air are sometimes carried aloft, other whiles (gather) in different shapes, and enter into any cranny or cleft of the Earth where air enters, to their ordinary dwellings; the Earth being full of cavities and cells…”

Brian_Faeries_1Rev. Kirk referred to these beings as “astral” beings. This is to say that they dwell in what is commonly referred to as the “astral realm”. This realm is what is known by esotericists to lie between the realm of physical matter and mind. This aptly describes its makeup as well, as the constitution of beings that reside in this realm are something of “apparitions”, too dense to be pure thought forms, but not dense enough to fully exist on the physical plane. Now, we too exist in the astral realm, and have what as known as an “astral body”, just as we have a physical body, a mental body and a spiritual body. We humans are unique in the fact that we have the gift of full form and function in every level of existence (though most do not know, understand or utilize this gift). Most beings do not have this ability, and some are quite envious that we do.

In times not all that long ago, people were reported to have been taken by fairies, elves, brownies, goblins, etc. to what was known as the “Otherworld”, some of who never returned. There were also legends of those beings that would have sexual intercourse with a human and even cause impregnation. More disturbing still were the cases of otherworldly sexual abuse and demonic possession. These beings were said to either reside in caverns deep within the bowels of the Earth, or dwell on the “Dark Side of the Moon”, particularly in the case of the terrifying entities known as “Demons”. The prefix or suffix “mon” is always a reference to the Moon, i.e. Mon-day, or Lun-(Lunar)di in French.

Yoshitoshi_Mount_Yoshino_Midnight_MoonDrawing from the ancient mystery school traditions as well as the insights of modern-day clairvoyants such as Rudolf Steiner and Lorna Byrne, author Mark Booth described “Moon Demons” in his book “The Secret History of the World”:

“Moon demons inhabit the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, where they play a legitimate role in the spiritual economy of the cosmos, helping to tear corruption from human spirits after death. However, if they break into the earthly realm, they appear as malevolent dwarves. The height of a six-or seven-year-old child with large, hypnotic eyes, they sometimes emit an ear-splitting yell that can freeze a human with fear. More powerful when the moon is waning, these demons may account for some modern encounters with ‘aliens’…”

gray-alien1An interesting and somewhat chilling listen is the audio recording from what was supposedly the Apollo Lunar Mission, in which strange howling noises were picked up on the audio waves.

In the story I mentioned at the beginning about the strange “transformations” that the massage therapists saw, we should note that each time it was described that they saw a “Grey alien” appear. Former New York Times writer and best-selling author, Daniel Pinchbeck gives insight about the infamous “Grey Aliens” in his book “2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl”:

Goblins are clever: Our fairy tales tell us this. These entities- ‘unfinished,’ half-created, or soulless- set age-old traps for humanity. The Grays or the visitors are perhaps best understood as an updated version of goblin or gnome. According to Austrian visionary Rudolf Steiner… what gnomes and goblins are made of is ‘entirely sense, and it is a sense which is at the same time intellect.’ Lower creatures such as these ‘have no bony skeleton, no bony support; the gnomes bind everything that exists by way of gravity and fashion their bodies from this volatile, invisible force, bodies which are, moreover, in constant danger of disintegrating, of losing their substance,’… Despite its interstellar pretensions, nothing about the visitor narrative suggests an extraterrestrial origin. The Grays seem to possess no inner life, no history, nothing beyond their vindictive and macabre relationship to the human species. Researchers of UFOs have noted that many, if not most, observations seem to occur along earthquake fault lines, and the caverns that abductees sometimes describe being taken to seem to be deep underground… They do not come down form empyrean reaches, but out of the mythological depths of the Earth- from a lower dimensional reality, perhaps, that is saturated with ancient gloom and dark yearnings.

Renowned South African Zulu shaman, author, artist and historian Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa has been outspoken about his encounters with the beings his people refer to as the mantindane or “tormentors”:

“Suddenly, I found myself in a very strange place, a place that looked like a tunnel lined with metal… I was lying on what appeared to be a very heavy and very large working bench or a working table… And all of a sudden, in this strange, tunnel-like room, I saw what appeared to be dull, heady-looking, grey, dull-like creatures which were moving toward me…. . I was frightened, but I couldn’t move my arms or my legs. I just lay there like a goat on a sacrificial altar. And when the creatures came towards me, I felt fear inside me… They were short creatures, about the size of African Pigmy. They have very large heads, very thin arms, and very thin legs… They had strange eyes, which looked like goggles of some kind… They had no noses, as we have, only small holes on either side of the raised area between their eyes. Their mouth had no lips, only thin cuts as if made by a razor…. I looked and saw that, through these covers over their eyes, I could see the creature’s real eyes behind this black, goggle-like cover. Its eyes were round, with straight pupils, like those of a cat…

And then, before I knew it, one of the creatures, the one standing next to my feet, drove something into my organ of manhood, but here there was no pain, just a violent irritation, as if I was making love to something or someone…”

Encounters with strange “alien” beings have been recounted by indigenous shamans across the world.  In his book, “The Active Side of Infinity” by Carlos Castaneda, the Toltec shaman known as Don Juan Matus tells Castaneda about what the sorcerer shamans of ancient Mesoamerica called “The Flyers”, strange shadowy beings who were said to move in the bizarre, sideways jumping-type movements that the Grey aliens are often reported to. Don Juan also refers to these beings as the “predators”, and explains their existence as “the most serious topic in sorcery”:

“We have a predator that came from the depths of the cosmos and took over the rule of our lives. Human beings are its prisoners. The predator is our lord and master. It has rendered us docile, helpless. If we want to protest, it suppresses our protest. If we want to act independently, it demands that we don’t do so…

Sorcerers believe that the predators have given us our systems of beliefs, our ideas of good and evil, our social mores. They are the ones who set up our hopes and expectations and dreams of success or failure. They have given us covetousness, greed and cowardice. It is the predators who make us complacent, routinary and egomaniacal.”

Don Juan tells Castaneda that these predators “give us their mind, which becomes our mind.” He states that the ancient sorcerers “found out that if they taxed the flyers’ mind with inner silence, the foreign installation would flee, giving to any one of the practitioners involved in this maneuver the total certainty of the mind’s foreign origin.”

In Gnostic texts such as The Secret Book of John and The Reality of Rulers we read the saga of the Goddess Sophia, who after attempting to create on her own, without the partnership of the Sacred Masculine, or “God”, creates a monstrosity of a creature akin to an “aborted fetus” in some versions, while others describe it as a creature with a lion’s head and a serpent’s body. This being was named Yaldabaoth. Sophia looked upon her creation with horror and created a veil to separate it from the true world of the True Creator. She wanted to hide her “error”. This being of Yaldabaoth is often likened to Saturn, who I have discussed at length in previous postings. Saturn of course, is the overlord of matter, linear time and death. These are the things that keep us separated from the true nature of Divine Spirit. Yaldabaoth and his minions known as Archons or “rulers” are said to be the controlling structure of reality, as we know it.

It was understood in the ancient mystery traditions that the Sun had “spirits”- powerful Angelic entities known as “Elohim”, that were used in the creation of the Life of the Universe. It was also understood that the other heavenly “spheres” had spirits and entities as well, that served a specific purpose in the order of creation. These beings we see as “aliens” are likely such entities.

Rudolf Steiner AhrimanDon Juan specifically states that his “predators” are inorganic beings, which would correlate with possibly originating from a place that would potentially foster inorganic life, such as Saturn.  It has been said that the Greys appear almost mechanical in their functioning, which correlates well with the cold, mechanistic nature clairvoyants such as Rudolf Steiner have used to describe Ahriman, aka. Satan.

In an essay entitled “Advent of Ahriman”, author Robert Mason delves into the teachings of Rudolf Steiner relating to the shadowy entity known as Ahriman, his incarnation in “the third millennium”, as well as astral beings known as “Doppelgängers”:

“According to Steiner’s insights, each of the various regions of the earth has its unique effect upon the human organism. In America the Ahrimanic influence is strong, rising from the center of the earth, carried by electromagnetism. This strengthens the entity known to occultism as the human “double” or “Doppelgänger”. This Doppelgänger is an astral quasi-personification of a Man’s karma, both “good” and “bad”; it is a being with intelligence and will, but with no individual, spiritual ego, and tends to bind the human soul to the body, hardening human thinking, feeling, and willing.

All Men have a Doppelgänger living in their nerve-electricity, infusing into their souls all sorts of degrading, depressing impulses, as well as instigating internal illnesses. (Electricity is the “sub-natural”, rigidifying shadow of soul forces.)”

Could it be that perhaps the entity that was being seen in the massage therapist’s office was in fact this Doppelganger or some sort of Ahrimanic astral entity that had learned how to attach itself to the Doppelganger? In any case, the essay gives insight as to the intentions of Ahriman:

“Ahriman wishes to be the first to so harden the ethereal body so that it becomes the vehicle of automatic, intellectual thinking-devoid-of-will, and thus to make it possible to keep human ethereal bodies permanently in the region of earth.  Then the earth would become so hardened that it would not pass over to the Jupiter Age, and Man would become clever, animalistic, ghostly, earth-bound creatures.”

Looking at actions and intentions, these Ahrimanic entities or “flyers” may seem fearsome and oppressive, however, Don Juan states that they should not be seen in the good/bad model of infantile thinking:

“The flyers are an essential part of the universe… and they must be taken as what they really are — awesome, monstrous. They are the means by which the universe tests us.”

Don Juan even states that once we learn to master our own mind and our perceptions, we can make these seemingly demonic entities into our allies and even servants:

“Once the barrier is broken, inorganic beings change and become what seers call allies.”

the-shadows-of-goetiaThis may bring to mind the story of King Solomon who used magic to bind the Goetia demons and use them to build his palace. Personally, I tend to stay away from that type of magick, but I also think there is a greater insight to be gleaned here. These entities prey on our minds and our emotions. When this happens, we are spiritually tested. Just as the devil was God’s method of testing Job, these beings are what create the conditions for us to be tested. The great cosmic joke in all of this is that we human beings are infinitely more vast, complex and powerful than these “archons” that are more or less akin to a virus whose primary function is to assist in the revealing and purging of weakness and impurity so that we may become stronger. The truth is, much like those who lord over and oppress on the material plane, these beings only have as much power over us as we allow them to.

So this leads us back to where we started. I am not going to attempt to explain the mechanics or specifics or even the motivations of what occurred on the massage tables other than I think the answer again lies in the myths, folklore and occult traditions that have been with us for millennia rather than with some completely new paradigm that was created to better align with the also relatively new belief system of scientific materialism and linear reality. I would argue that these things are seen as “defying the laws of nature” simply because we do not have a full understanding of what those laws truly are or how they work. This is not to say that there aren’t those out there that do, however, this is not the programming fed to the mass mind.  We are taught that the laws that appear to govern matter have always been and always will be as they are.  This is assumption, not science.

Regardless, the real question I wanted to flesh out at this point is why these sorts of “paranormal” events appear to be experienced by more and more people. I referred to “the thinning of the Veil” at the beginning. What this means is that the veil that appears to separate the material world from, the astral, ethereal and spiritual realms is disappearing. In other words, the material world and the minds of men are becoming “less dense” (although it may seem that some of us are becoming ‘denser’). As Spirit became increasingly dense, becoming solid matter, so too will this state of existence eventually dissolve and return back to its Source, as the alchemical process of the Great Work is completed. As I stated earlier, there are beings that exist on all levels of existence. The highest beings reside in a super-fine level of Light vibration close to that of the Creator, and with each step down, the “kingdoms” and the beings that inhabit them, become more and more dense and lower in vibration until you reach the kingdom of dense matter. But now, as the Veil is lifted, and matter and more importantly the consciousness that inhabits it begin to slowly vibrate at a higher frequency, we will be able to “see” things that we could not. This is because we will begin to inhabit the same “frequency” on the tuner. And the frequency that is vibrating just above matter is that of the Astral. This is why these astral beings of the “lower realms” are now becoming visible to more and more of us. As time progresses, this ability to “see” will occur in more and more people.

We are on our way back home, and as the millennia progress, we will be in greater contact with entities of a consistently higher vibration. We are moving through the lower realms now, and we will begin to bump into beings that may not seem to be overly friendly. This is the time of tribulation and the time when the “Pit” is opened. However, this is not something we need to fear.

When I was studying with Ahura Z., he had us memorize Psalm 91, which has traditionally been used to in exorcisms. It is can be used for protection and to ward off negative energies of any kind:

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

The point of this journey into matter and back up again is to be refined as sovereign beings and take our place as co-creators; as gods and goddesses.  This is our purpose. Despite what popular science would have us belief, we are not tiny, insignificant specks on a rock in the middle of nowhere. Nor are we some kind of blight that the Earth would better off without. We are multidimensional beings of Light, Life and Love. We are the focal point of Creation. That being said, this does not mean we can rest on our laurels and just go along for the ride, because we are the ones whose job it is to steer this ship home.

WHY I DON’T BUY PINK RIBBONS: Rethinking Breast Cancer Awareness Month

“The pink ribbon has been corrupted. Corporations, not community, have become the primary promoters of the pink ribbon. Corporations are exploiting our collective generosity and concern for breast cancer patients to make a profit. Many of these companies are not transparent about which breast cancer charities or research, if any, are benefiting from our purchases. Other companies are pinkwashing, claiming to care about breast cancer (often evidenced by placing a pink ribbon on a product) even though their product actually increases a woman’s risk of breast cancer!”

I’m sure most of you out there know that October is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”; the time of year when we see pink shoes on NFL players and pink ropes on WWE rings. This is the time of year when millions of Americans “Race for the Cure” and buy pink ribbons. It’s the time of year that multi-billion dollar corporations give their products pink packaging with the promise of donating a percentage of the proceeds to the Komen Foundation or some other organization that states they are looking to find a “cure for breast cancer” or simply just “raise awareness”. Personally, while I believe in the principles of working alleviate the suffering of others and “giving to a good cause”, a simple look into the origins of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and the whole “pink” campaign shows that it is founded on neither of those principles.

Breast Cancer Awareness month was initiated in 1985 by a partnership between the American Cancer Society and chemical conglomerate formerly known as Imperial Chemical Industries, currently known as AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (fined $375 million in 2009 for defrauding Medicaid systems in Kentucky and Alabama). With billions in revenues, AstraZeneca is among the world’s largest manufacturers of pesticides, plastics, and pharmaceuticals. According to a 1998 article by journalists Peter Montague, Allison Sloan and Tracy Baxter:

Forty-nine percent of (Astra)Zeneca’s 1997 profits came from pesticides and other industrial chemicals, and another 49 percent came from pharmaceutical sales, and the remaining 2 percent came from health care services including 11 cancer treatment centers… Their product tamoxifen citrate (Nolvadex) is the most commonly prescribed breast cancer treatment drug on the market, and accounted for $500 million in 1997 sales. Cancer prevention would clearly conflict with (Astra)Zeneca’s business plan…

Other large corporations have a vested interest in breast cancer as well. General Electric (who designed the faulty nuclear reactors involved in the Fukishima disaster) sells upwards of $100 million annually in mammography machines; DuPont (a major synthetic chemical company also in the GMO business) supplies much of the film used in those machines. These companies aggressively promote mammography screening of women in their 40s, despite the risk of its contributing to breast cancer in that age group. And while biotech giant Monsanto sponsors Breast Cancer Awareness Month’s high profile event, the Race for the Cure, it continues to profit from the production of many known carcinogens.”

Glyphosate, the primary ingredient in Monsanto’s “Roundup” pesticide, has recently been labelled as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization. However, what many are less aware of is that Monsanto has had a presence in the pharmaceutical industry. The following was stated on Pfizer’s website:

“In April 2000, Pharmacia & Upjohn completed a merger with Monsanto and Searle creating Pharmacia, a dynamic new competitor in the pharmaceutical industry. This top-tier company’s innovative medicines and other products saved the lives of many and enhanced health and wellness.”

In 1999, Pharmacia & Upjohn gained permission to market the breast cancer treatment drug, Ellence in the U.S. The drug was praised as setting a “cancer survival benchmark” at the 27th Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. Pharmacia was later purchased by Pfizer, who know owns the rights to Ellence. The point I’m making here is this- it is big chemical/pharmaceutical companies that founded and sponsor this whole “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” as well as the “Race for the Cure”, and one of the ironies here is that pharmaceutical companies have little vested interest in “curing” anything. Pharmaceuticals are in the business of “managed care” and to “cure” a disease would be directly contradictory to their bottom line. Pharmaceutical conglomerates, like other international mega-corporations are first and foremost responsible to their shareholders and their profit bottom line. Any forms of charity and “altruism” are typically more about creating and maintaining a positive “public image”  than selfless service or giving to the community. Concern for overall welfare of the consumer is typically an afterthought at best.

Since 1982, the ‘face’ of the “fight” against breast cancer has been the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The Komen Foundation is a multi-million dollar “non-profit” company with assets totaling over $390 million. Better yet, only 20.9% of these funds were reportedly used in the 2009-2010 fiscal year for research “for the cure”. Former Komen CEO Hala Modelmogg made over $550,000 in one year. Much of the money that IS used to ‘race for the cure’ goes to “free” mammograms, which subject women to high doses of ionizing radiation, and can actually cause breast cancer.

In a recent article for the British Medical Journal, Steven Woolshin and Lisa Schwartz, directors of the Center for Medicine and the Media at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, stated that the Komen foundation, “used misleading statistics and deceptive statements about mammography to promote breast cancer awareness and screening,” in its promotional material for the 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The authors went on to say that Komen willfully ignored “a growing and increasingly accepted body of evidence [showing] that although screening may reduce a woman’s chance of dying from breast cancer by a small amount, it also causes major harms.”

Woolshin and Schwartz went on to illustrate this point:

“The Komen advertisement is deceptive in another way: it ignores the harms of screening… Between 20% and 50% of women screened annually for a decade experience at least one false alarm requiring a biopsy. Most importantly, screening results in over-diagnosis. For every life saved by mammography, around two to 10 women are over-diagnosed. Women who are over-diagnosed cannot benefit from unnecessary chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. All they do experience is harm… Women need much more than marketing slogans about screening, they need — and deserve — the facts. The Komen advertisement campaign failed to provide the facts. Worse, it undermined decision making by misusing statistics to generate false hope about the benefit of mammography screening. That kind of behavior is not very charitable… The benefits and harms [of mammography] are so evenly balanced that the National Breast Cancer Coalition, a major US network of patient and professional organizations, ‘believes there is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against universal mammography in any age group of women.'”

The National Cancer Institute has stated that mammography may cause 75 cases of breast cancer for every 15 it identifies in younger women. A study published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine recently also pointed out that radiating breast mammography was a harmful medical practice that ‘should be abandoned.’

It is worth noting that the Komen foundation owns stock in General Electric (who polluted a 200-mile stretch of the Hudson River with carcinogenic PCBs) as well as AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. At the Food and Drug Administration hearings in 1998, the Komen Foundation was the only national breast cancer group to endorse the cancer treatment drug Tamoxifen as a prevention device for healthy but high-risk women, despite vehement opposition by the majority of other breast cancer groups. Its maker, is AstraZeneca, which makes educational grants to Komen and has a continually visible presence at the Race for the Cure.

While Tamoxifen is one of the most widely used and arguably successful breast cancer treatments today, it is also classified as a known carcinogen. This is why groups such as the National Women’s Health Network, Breast Cancer Action, and Medical Consumers Union all issued critical statements at the hearing against approving it to prevent breast cancer. These groups testified about the drug’s troubling links to uterine cancer as well as the FDA’s questionable criteria used to define a woman as high-risk.

It has now become just another P.R. marketing firm for big pharma, the mammogram industry and big corporations whose products are creating the cancer Komen is “racing” to cure. Advertisements utilizing the testimonies of breast cancer survivors tug at the heartstrings of consumers, while lining the pockets of sponsors and the “cancer industry”. All the while a human being’s suffering is being exploited on television for a profit potentially without them even realizing it.

These corporations are peddling the processed food, GMOs, and cosmetic products that contain the very hormone-disrupting carcinogens that are known to cause breast cancer in the first place. They then turn around and put a pink label on these products so people will in turn buy more. Companies know that aligning themselves with “breast cancer awareness” will increase their profits and improve the public’s perception of them. It is basic marketing and advertising to want consumers to “feel good” about what they’re purchasing. Feeding off the average person’s desire to help others, corporations will put pink ribbons and pink packaging on their products, knowing that this will compel people to choose their product over that of a competitor.

Remember, the “profit first” model that most multi-national corporations are beholden to makes them by their very nature amoral entities. It doesn’t matter how many good men and women work for them, as long as the shareholder-first model is in place, nothing will change. From the perspective of someone who is fighting to end cancer, this is insane. From the perspective of someone who is profiting in multiple ways from cancer, this is brilliant.

Let’s be honest when you buy “pink”, you have no idea how much if any of that money is actually going to “cancer research”, you take it as an act of faith. This is one of the main reasons I never give to “cancer research”. People wear pink ribbons to promote breast cancer “awareness”. The pink ribbon itself was originally a peach-colored loop made by 68-year old breast cancer survivor Charlotte Haley to spread “awareness”. The awareness was printed on a card that accompanied the ribbons that stated:

“The National Cancer Institute annual budget is $1.8 billion, only 5 percent goes for cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon.”

In 1992 Haley was contacted by “Self” magazine who expressed interest in giving her “national attention”, but Haley declined, stating she saw them as “too commercial”. It was at that point the magazine and their major sponsor, cosmetic giant Estee Lauder told Haley they wanted her to relinquish the ribbon concept, and when she would not, they turned her peach ribbon pink. This became the vehicle for Lauder’s corporate philanthropy organization, the Breast Cancer Research Foundations. It should again be noted that many of the chemicals used in Estee Lauder cosmetics are known carcinogens that are absorbed through the skin.

“Awareness”– does anyone really know what that even means anymore? Of course we are “aware” of breast cancer, pretty much everyone in America at the very least knows someone who knows someone who has tangled with or even died from it. We are aware it exists and we are aware that people are suffering and losing their lives. I know, Komen is promoting “awareness” through breast screening using the mammogram machines that General Electric makes and Komen profits from through its stock ownership. But this isn’t the kind of awareness that will really help anyone but those looking to make a profit.

o-ANGELINA-JOLIE-DOUBLE-MASTECTOMY-facebookWe are fed this line that if you have these specific genes, you are pretty much guaranteed to get breast cancer and there isn’t anything you can do save for maybe mutilating your body. We have “brave” celebrities like Angelina Jolie supposedly getting a double-mastectomy (I say “supposedly” because you can never be sure of the reality of ANYTHING that comes out of the Hollywood scene), which essentially acts as marketing for the procedure. Celebrities have been used for marketing since the 1920s, and while I don’t know Angelina Jolie personally, and I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but the fact remains that these are actors and Hollywood and the media lies to the American public on a regular basis. It should also be taken into consideration that the human body is a complex, interrelated network of communicating cells, organs, glands, etc.; not a group of compartmentalized parts. This being said, the trauma of having your breasts or any other body part removed will have impact and consequences throughout your body as well as your psyche in a variety of ways.

24packWomen are put though lengthy, painful and expensive treatments and many still wind up being killed by the disease. All the while, people fundraise to give pharmaceutical companies money to “research” for a cure that they have no intention of delivering. We have fatalists in the medical science establishment who say we’re cursed by genetics as if it’s always been this way, while ignoring the fact that these cancers have skyrocketed in sync with the increased use of radiation and known carcinogens and hormone disrupting chemicals in our food, air, water, cosmetics, food packaging, drink bottles (like the Bisphenol-A in the Komen pink “Athena” water bottles), medications (hormone therapy, birth control), household cleaning products, shampoos, soaps, fragrances, receipt printing inks, cell-phones, etc.

What many people aren’t aware of is, and what none of these big “pinkwashers” are talking about is WHY this is happening. The original message on Charlotte Haley’s ribbon spoke of “cancer prevention”. My question is why aren’t any of these “pink” people spreading “awareness”, bringing “awareness” as to why this is such an epidemic and what can be done to prevent it? Unfortunately it appears that the reason this real awareness about breast cancer isn’t being talked about in the mass media is because it is “bad for business”. This is the way it has been for a long time now, and there is little evidence that should cause us to believe the “corporate cancer business” is going to change its tune. Back in 1977 journalist Jim Rosapepe wrote in his article, “Cancer Society Seeks Cure, Neglects Causes”:

“Probably the most serious problem with cancer research in this country has been the lack of attention given to banning carcinogenic chemicals. Despite government estimates that 60-70 percent of cancer is caused by environmental factors, the ACS (American Cancer Society) has never pushed a ban on any carcinogenic product.”

acs-artThe inconvenient truth here is that pretty much every synthetic chemical that we use and consume in our daily life is killing us. But the good news is WE CAN CHANGE THAT. We can take action ourselves RIGHT NOW. We can cut out the sugar and inflammatory garbage from our diet and choose to eat organic and GMO-free, non-processed foods. We can choose to purchase cleaners, cosmetics, fragrances and bath products that use simple organic ingredients rather than a laundry list of 16-letter chemical compounds we can’t pronounce (personally, I make it a rule of thumb not to purchase things with ingredients that I don’t know or can’t say). We can use glass containers instead of plastic. We can filter pesticides and other toxins out of our water. We can tell the cashier to keep the receipt. We don’t need to have our cell-phone on our person at all times. Obviously things like smoking, drinking in excess, drugs (prescription or street) are things to be wary of as they will tend to throw the body out of its natural balance, and cancer if anything is a disease of imbalance.

There are also certain organic minerals and vitamins that have also been shown to ward off various forms of cancer. For example there have been studies done, led by the acclaimed Dr. Gerhardt Schrauser, which said you can reduce your risk of breast cancer, depending on the type, by 50-85% by taking 250-500 mcg of Selenium (a trace mineral) each day. Other studies show that most Americans are iodine deficient (as it has been removed from most of the salts, etc.), which causes complications in the thyroid, and other hormonal regulators. Daily supplementation with a good-quality nascent (naturally-derived, and in its most basic form) iodine has been shown to do wonders for the body. Vitamin C has been shown to destroy cancer cells in mega-doses while leaving the healthy cells intact. A bit harder to come by, but a true “cure-all” medicine is Cannabis OIL, which has produced numerous seemingly miraculous success stories of completely eradicating cancer in patients the world over.

It is also well known that the continuous stress we are under in this modern world of the “rat race” is a root causal factor of many diseases. Our mental and psychological state will often dictate the state of our physical health. This is where practices such as meditation and the like can serve as de-stressors. Likewise, the sedentary lifestyle of the average bed to car to desk to car to couch to bed American is also killing us. This is where physical activity and movement come into play for cancer prevention and basic health.

Lastly I will mention the power of prayer. We live in a “mind before matter” universe, and we have the ability to manifest as well as heal with our focused thoughts, heartfelt intentions and the energy those things produce. This is not to say we can use flighty, magical thinking and just wish something to go away. However, if we understand the Law of Prayer and take the right actions in the physical world to assist the bringing about of what we desire and imagine and believe this is possible, we can see true miracles occur.

healing_scriptureBreast cancer is a topic that hits close to home for many people, including the family of people that are very close to me. However, we’ll never find a “cure” if we’re not honest about the cause and don’t take action to negate it. The explosion of cancer of all kinds is a direct result of our modern society and way of life, with its synthetic constructs and complete disconnectedness from the natural rhythms and balances of our body and our planet. Again, this ultimately comes down to us taking back our power over our own health. We need to stop “racing” for others to create a magic pill to sell us and take responsibility to be the cure for ourselves. Knowledge truly is power, and when it comes to cancer, it can be the power over life and death.

As far as charities go, I know I have done a bit of ragging on the likes of Komen and other “corporate charities”, but there are good non-profits out there that are doing real work to help people. First there is The Breast Cancer Fund, who works “to prevent breast cancer by eliminating our exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to the disease” through lobbying, education, activism, etc. Similarly there is Breast Cancer Action whose mission is “to achieve health justice for all women at risk of and living with breast cancer.” These groups both focus on addressing the causes of breast cancer and what can be done about it. Likewise, neither have any sort of major corporate sponsorship nor advertising presence.

Lastly, there is a local non-profit here in Portland called the Children’s Cancer Association. This is a group that works to bring joy and companionship to children suffering from various forms of cancer through volunteers who do art projects with, play music to, read stories to, and even bring in animals to brighten the day of a sick child. While this is not pertinent specifically to breast cancer, per se, I think it illustrates how healing can happen just through putting a smile on someone’s face. It also shows that is through each of us individually taking action; real, meaningful action, that the suffering caused by cancer in all its forms, can be alleviated.

So in closing, I propose taking “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” away from these corporate conglomerates and giving it actual meaning and substance. Let’s bring awareness to the actual CAUSES of breast cancer, as well as the many other cancers being created by the toxins being sold to us. Let’s bring awareness to how we can counteract these things through non-toxic alternatives and an overall healthy lifestyle. Let’s bring awareness to how each one of us has the potential to take action OURSELVES and make real changes in the world by reaching out and spreading knowledge and compassion to others.

MARRIAGE: INSTITUTION OF THE STATE OR UNION OF THE SPIRIT?

I’m sure by now people have heard of the whole Kim Davis debacle. For those who haven’t, Kim Davis is a county clerk in the state of Kentucky who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. A federal judge ordered her to do so, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell vs Hodges. When Davis refused, the judge had her jailed- without any sort trial, (which is technically a violation of the 7th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution) for being in “contempt of court”. Davis maintains that she was/is doing her job and following a “moral obligation”. Much has obviously been made about Ms. Davis’ “fundamentalist” Christian religious leanings, and those on “the right” assert her “right” to religious observance, and her “right” to, what some, including most notably Pope Francis have called “conscientious objection”.

As a side note, while America was playing “political football” with gay marriage YET AGAIN, much more pressing matters were unfolding on both the national as well as the international scene. The strong emotional nature of “love and marriage” bypasses the logic and rational centers of the critical mind, and is used to sucker us in like a worm on a hook. Funny thing is that it seems to work EVERY SINGLE TIME, as the gay marriage issue is continually used as a smokescreen to distract us from more pressing issues that effect ALL OF US. But anyhow, back to the issue at hand

I’ve noticed in this whole debate, what is not really being talked about is the nature of the Supreme Court that is supposed to “interpret” the Constitution and the whole idea of marriage being a “legal institution” to be licensed and regulated by the State. When the Supreme Court of the United States made its decision in the Obergefell vs. Hodges case, on June 26th of this year, it was gleefully declared that the SCOTUS had “legalized gay marriage”, and the White House lit up like a rainbow. The problem with this perception is that the Judicial Branch doesn’t make laws, it only interprets them. Legislative power is supposed to be in the hands of the Legislative Branch, i.e. Congress.

Of course, people with some understanding of the process, know what happened was that the SCOTUS declared that according to the latest interpretation of the 14th Amendment, the Constitution requires a State to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-State. The much-debated 14th amendment states, “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

One of the criticisms of the 14th Amendment, which was not ratified until the end of the Civil War, is that it took power from the individual states and centralized it into the Federal Government. The Civil War was really about the Federal Government wanting to assert power over the States, not slavery (Abraham Lincoln didn’t really care that much for the black slaves and had actually planned on deporting them before he was assassinated). It is argued that the 14th Amendment essentially gave the Federal Government powers that the original framers of the Constitution had not intended and is in direct contention with the 10th Amendment.

The 10th Amendment states that any powers not given to the Legislative or Executive Branches are “reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”. The 10th Amendment is part of what is known as “The Bill of Rights”, which are the first 10 Amendments of the Constitution. It should also be noted that Section 5 of Article 14 (the 14th Amendment) states “Congress (not the Supreme Court) shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate LEGISLATION, the provisions of this article.

There is not a word spoken in regards to marriage in the text of the Constitution, and the only time there was any legislation passed by Congress in regards to marriage was with The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) that President Clinton signed, and the Supreme Court later declared unconstitutional. Now, I’m no lawyer, but I can read, and it would appear that with the ruling on DOMA, according to the 10th Amendment, would give the authority of defining of marriage to the states, as no new legislation to regulate marriage was created, which seems to be technically required under the same 14th Amendment that SCOTUS is using to “dictate law” (what does a “dictator” do?). This being said, Kentucky does in fact define marriage in its own state constitution as being “between a man and woman”. So if we interpret the Constitution this way, Kim Davis was in fact doing her job.

Of course interpreting the Constitution is the job of the SCOTUS, which has throughout its illustrious history declared numerous laws and ordinances to be “Constitutional” only to later turn around and deem them “un-Constitutional”, or vice-versa. This is what happens when you give an unelected body absolute power to interpret the law in whatever way it sees fit at the time. In his book, “The Court and the Constitution”, now-deceased lawyer, law professor and special prosecutor during the Watergate Scandal, Archibald Cox gave the following insight into America’s Judicial Branch:

“No country has given its courts such extraordinary power. Not Britain, where an act of Parliament binds the courts. Not India… or Ireland, where the power of judicial review is established but exercised on a narrower scale. The President is elected. State legislators and Governors are elected. Supreme Court Justices are not elected: they are appointed for life.”

This power given to the SCOTUS to interpret the Constitution in whatever way they see fit at the time makes the law arbitrary to the point of being meaningless at best and tyrannical at worst. As has been demonstrated time and again, the SCOTUS essentially interprets the law in a manner that is politically beneficial at the moment. This “dictatorship of the court” is one of the primary reasons why so many of the founders OPPOSED the adoption of the Constitution in place of the Articles of Confederation. One of those founders was Patrick Henry (“Give me liberty, or give me death”) who gravely stated in his speech at the Virginia ratifying assembly:

Another thing to be considered in this whole discussion is that at the time of the passing of the 14th Amendment, the institution of marriage was not a considered a “legal” institution in the United States. At that time, marriage was not something that was under the jurisdiction of government, but that of religion, as it was the pastor, priest, rabbi, medicine man, etc. that typically married people in the United States and it was the religious institution that performed the ceremony that declared the marriage as sanctified. Neither local, state or federal government had any jurisdiction or say over the institution of marriage, as it was seen as strictly a “spiritual union”, which would have kept it free from government encroachment under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution which states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

While marriage registration was practiced strictly for purposes of population census, actual government licensing and regulation of marriage did not take place until the early 20th century when laws prohibiting mixed-race marriages and marriage of those deemed “unfit” were put into place. By the 1920s, 38 states prohibited whites from marrying Japanese, Chinese, Indians, blacks, “mulattos,” “Mongolians,” “Malays” or Filipinos. Twelve states would not issue a marriage license if one partner was an addict, a drunk or a “mental defect.” Eighteen states set barriers to post-divorce remarriage.

Eugenic-certificateOf course, these laws against interracial marriage, etc. were eventually found unconstitutional. However, now the government regulation and licensing of marriage continued to be justified due to the Social Security Act providing survivors’ benefits with proof of marriage. Employers also use marital status to determine whether they would provide health insurance or pension benefits to employees’ dependents. Courts and hospitals required a marriage license before granting couples the privilege of inheriting from each other or receiving medical information.

Again, most of these things have been “proven” both legal and illegal, or “Constitutional” or “un-Constitutional” by the Supreme Court as well as the multitude of smaller court systems throughout the United States. This again shows that “law”, far from being the “unbendable law of the land”, is completely arbitrary and will be interpreted by those in power to whatever way suits their interests at the time, regardless of what sentences say or what words actually mean.

Besides, if words on a legal document go against one’s desired actions, one just changes what those words and sentences mean. For example, in years past, the Trans-Pacific Partnership would have been considered a treaty, and thus subject to a long Congressional procedure in order to be ratified. However, if we simply refer to it as an “Agreement”, then the process of pushing it through Congress is shortened significantly, thus making it more likely to pass without too much trouble. If we are in positions of power and cultural influence, we can change language to suit the needs of the times and the general public will tend to parrot whatever memes and buzzwords the media and academic institutions that we who are in power control, tell them to.

So with that, I am done talking about the SCOTUS, the Constitution and the history of marriage as a legal entity in the U.S. because I think I’ve illustrated my point, which is this: man-made “law” is a fabricated illusion that only has meaning because one group says it does and another group believes it. So the question I’m going to throw out there now is do we feel the same way about marriage too? Is marriage also just a fabricated illusion that only has meaning because someone says it does and someone else believes it? I’m sure plenty of people would say yes and plenty of people would say no, and a few people might be unsure either way.

The reason I am playing “devil’s advocate” here is because I am wondering why people who are so bubbly and romantic about “love and marriage” and so high-minded and vehemently passionate and emotional about “freedom to love”, seem to take no issue with the fact that government has complete control over marriage in the first place. If any of you who are reading this fall into the above classification, I want to ask you, is it because deep down you see love and marriage as no more “real” than government and law, or is it because you believe in the power of government just as much as you believe in the power of love and the “sanctity” of marriage. Honestly think about that for a moment, and if you answered “yes”, or even “maybe” to either one of those questions, think about it some more.

I know, I get it, “that’s just the way it is.” But isn’t it somewhat of a sad state of affairs to have Marriage; a sacred institution supposedly rooted in Love and the Noble Virtue of Fidelity; completely subservient to government and economics. This fight over marriage is in large part about being able to claim financial benefits and assets that the all-powerful State “decrees” legally-recognized spouses are entitled to. This is literally putting a price on Love, showing what we value more, which ironically, cheapens it. This is agreeing to give the State power so we can get money.

Of course there are also the issues surrounding end-of-life care and hospital visitation “rights”, etc., but why should the State or any other institution have these powers either? Does anyone else see something wrong with this? This fight isn’t about “love”, it’s about groveling to the State for recognition, further re-affirming its power and dominance over our lives. It is yet another re-affirmation of the idea that the State can grant “rights” by decree or dictate. And what the State has the power to give, it will also reserve the power to take away.

Personally, I have had mixed feelings around marriage for most of my life- most of them negative due to a family history of failed marriages and divorce. That being said, I have also had the privilege to see some wonderful, loving, long-lasting marriages of people very close to me. I am engaged myself, and although it has been a rough road at times, I love my fiancée very much and she is my best friend. As I continue to grow into deeper understanding of the nature of Spirit, I continue to grow into deeper understanding of the nature of Love and relationships. And while this understanding continues to grow, there are two things I am fairly certain of:

First, is that marriage in its ideal form is first and foremost a spiritual union that is rooted in the Divine Union of masculine and feminine polarities (notice I did not say man and woman). My teacher and mentor, Reverend Matthias taught me that in the Mystical Marriage, the masculine and feminine come to one another with the Divine Source as the mediator, transmuting their individual energies into their purest form as they engage and interact with one another. In its ideal form, marriage, as well as sexual union, is one of the deepest forms of Alchemy one can partake in. In the union of man and woman, the most Divine Expression is of course, the creation of new life- a “Divine Child”. Obviously, those of same-sex relations cannot produce a physical child, but I dare say that if the partners approach one another through the Divine Channel, a spiritual product of Divine Union can potentially be created through all forms of union, creating a “Child of Aether/Spirit”- a psychic, energetic and spiritual product of the perfection of their union.

divine unionThe second thing that I am certain of is that given what I just described about the mystical nature of marriage as well as that of Love in general, it is absurd beyond words that it should be lorded over by any institution that is primarily based in control and fear, which are energies that are by order of magnitude, much lower in vibration than Love or Virtue. As I stated earlier, government and human law is for all intents and purposes an illusion. Love is real. Government is not. Letting the State rule over Marriage is a symbol of the dominance that we have given money and materialism over Love and Virtues of a Higher Nature- both in our society and in our own minds.

In closing, I am going to leave you all with what might be my favorite human origin myth, taken from Plato’s, “Symposium: The Myth of Aristophanes” c. 400 BC. I find it both strange and beautiful. I hope you all enjoy it:

“A long time ago, there were three kinds of human beings: male, descended from the sun; female, descended from the earth; and androgynous, with both male and female elements, descended from the moon. Each human being was completely round, with four arms and four legs, two identical faces on opposite sides of a head with four ears, and all else to match. They walked both forwards and backwards and ran by turning cartwheels on their eight limbs, moving in circles like their parents the planets.

As they were powerful and unruly and threatening to scale the heavens, Zeus (the king of the gods) devised to cut them into two ‘like a sorb-apple which is halved for pickling,’ and even threatened to cut them into two again, so that they might hop on one leg. Apollo (the god of light) then turned their heads to make them face towards their wound, pulled their skin around to cover up the wound, and tied it together at the navel like a purse. He made sure to leave a few wrinkles on what became known as the abdomen so that they might be reminded of their punishment.

After that, human beings longed for their other half so much that they searched for it all over and, when they found it, wrapped themselves around it very tightly and did not let go.
