“I am become as a demon apart, who dwelleth in matter and light is not in him, and I am become as a counterfeiting spirit, which is in a material body and light-power is not in it.”

    • Pistis Sophia

In the Gnostic creation stories, the physical world was created by the Aeon Sophia (whose name means “wisdom”) attempting to create without her masculine counterpart- in essence, she created without God.  “The Secret Book of John” states:

Now, Sophia… wanted to bring forth something like herself, without the consent of the spirit, who had not given approval, without her partner and without his consideration… Something came out of her that was imperfect and different in appearance from her, for she had produced it without her partner.  It did not resemble its mother and was misshapen.

The result of this attempt was the birth of the twisted Rulers or “Archons“- the lords of matter.  In certain respects, these could be seen as the “shadow emanations” of the Spheres and the Zodiac, which brings spirit into matter and manages life in the material universe.

Sophia looked upon her creation with horror and created a veil to separate it from the true world of the True Creator.  She wanted to hide her “error”.  The lord of the Archons was known as Yaldabaoth is often likened to Saturn or Chronos.  Saturn of course, is the overlord of matter, linear time and death.  There are some who claim to have made contact with these Archons in one manner or other, and describe them as being machine-like in their demeanor.  Some would even go so far as to claim they are some sort of hyper-dimensional parasites.

In the story, the goddess Sophia herself became ensnared by her creation and trapped within it.  It was then Her consort, whom in some versions is the Christos and others the Aeon Thelete (both are descending emanations of the Masculine generative Principle or ‘Logos’ ), was sent from beyond the Veil to save Her from the prison She had created through Her folly.

In the ancient mystery traditions, certain women were identified as “incarnations” of the Sophia, the goddess trapped in matte.  The most notable of these was Mary Magdalene, the consort of Christ Jesus in the Gnostic texts.  In this story, we see the Christ finding his long lost Sophia, forming the union of Heaven and Earth in the flesh.

But what of this artificial woman we see presented before us here?  Is it possible that she too could be such a thing in her own way?  Could she somehow be an extension of man’s own divinity, adding to the chain of creation?  Or is she simply the latest example of man’s descent into nihilistic materialism and his self-destructive obsession with becoming God while denying God?

One lesson I have taken from the story of the fall of Sophia is the idea that attempting to create a life on one’s own, without the aid of our Higher Power; of the Christ- the Primary Generative Principle- almost always results in follies, mishaps and abominations.

Will this creation of man; this artificial intelligence;  birthed through the sheer will of man’s cleverness and ingenuity, be the folly that ensnares us as Yaldabaoth ensnared Sophia?  Are we creating our own “Archons” who will rule over us?

Has this already happened before?

I suppose only Time will tell…

“Christ led me to Marx”

  • Fr. Ernesto Cardenal

I have spent a great deal of time attempting to explain how the Neo-Marxist ideology supported by members of the modern New Age movement, is antithetical to the spiritual growth and development of the individual and humanity as a whole.  But while I am a priest ordained under what is essentially a “Christian” order (albeit an esoteric one), I must ultimately concede that much of this problem of Marxist ideology infecting the New Age community in fact stems from Christianity itself.

When Christianity (or rather a “sanitized” version of it) was adopted by Constantine as the official religion of the decaying Roman Empire, it was very much done as a way to placate and control the vast Roman slave population.  The virtues espoused by Christianity (specifically its exoteric form) appealed to the downtrodden masses and gave hope of “salvation”.  However, while the Christian virtues of compassion and charity appeal to the highest elements of human nature, they also unfortunately appeal to the lowest as well- and in here lies the problem.

From its institution as the Roman state religion, Christianity could very much be described as a “slave religion”, not just in terms of being a religion for the slaves, but also in terms of much of the cultural mindset that has been derived from it in one form or another.  One man who was very vocal on making this point was German philosopher,  Friedrich Nietzsche.

In the philosophy outlined by Nietzsche, we come across the term “slave morality”.  A “slave” in Nietzsche’s terms, is one whose morality and very identity exists in the context of, and in comparison to, another stronger, more dominant individual or group-  the “master”.  The slave, forever the victim, envies the master and views the master’s successes as “oppressive”.  Thus the slave inevitably develops a resentment towards the master, whom he watches with envy craft and shape his own path in comparison to no one but himself.

An example of this mindset could be seen in the Church’s demonization of wealth (at least for the common folk) and the vaulting of poverty as a virtue- which was undeniably done for reasons of socio-political control.  However, even as Christianity’s influence waned (at least in Europe), this cultural consciousness still remained, and was taken advantage of by Marxists in the 19th and 20th centuries, who offered a sort of “salvation” for the proletariat and the “oppressed” peoples of the world.

One of the best examples of the unity between Christianity and Marxism can be seen in the Latin American Liberation Theology movement of the 1950s and 1960s, which was promoted by the Vatican in tandem with the Communist uprisings in that area, the fruits of which can be seen in modern-day Venezuela and elsewhere.  It is worth noting that the current Pope Francis is an adherent of this sect of Catholic philosophy.

With a body count of in the 20th century nearing 100 million people, Communism has  has caused more death and suffering in a shorter period of time than any other ideology in history, and by any measure was an abject failure.  But despite the failure of economic Marxism, Neo-Marxism or what is commonly dubbed “Cultural Marxism” has managed become the prevailing ideology throughout pretty much every Western institution- including the religious ones.

But what does all this have to do with the Christ; the Solar Impulse; the Light that is within us and surrounds us?  As alluded to earlier, Christianity, like most religions has two sets of teachings.  First, there are the exoteric or “outer” teachings, which could be understood as the teachings and doctrines meant to be consumed by the masses.  This is the Christianity that most people are familiar with, and the one that takes up the majority of what comprises the New Testament.  And while the exoteric teachings are traditionally meant to set the moral compass of the individual before entering the esoteric, much of the Bible is of such politicized origin that even these are at times questionable.

Unfortunately, when religion is based exclusively on exoteric understanding of its teaching, fundamentalism tends to occur.  Now, when most people think of Christian fundamentalism, they think of this sort of “Right-Wing” Christianity that relies heavily on the Old Testament to help shape its moral doctrine.  However, what most people don’t realize is that the more “Liberal” doctrines of Liberation Theology and the other more Left-leaning forms of Christian thought that use Christianity to promote socialism, mass migration, etc. are also exoteric, as they are using their interpretation of words and teachings to apply to the outside world (or at least their perception of it).

In contrast, we have the esoteric or “inner” forms of Christianity.  Although there was the discovery of the Nag Hammadi texts in the late 1940s, much of this teaching has been either lost or intentionally destroyed.  Fragments of this exist scattered throughout the New Testament, particularly in the Gospel of John, but the real essence of esoteric Christianity is beyond scripture, and by and large renders it obsolete- which is perhaps just as well.

The story is that Jesus had a certain set of teachings that were reserved only for his disciples- those who he deemed as ready to receive the gnosis, which literally means “knowledge”.  This knowledge is essentially that of the internal God-Self and the ability to perform the internal alchemy, merging the various disparate parts of our being and ascending our consciousness to a vibrational level far above that of the day-to-day world.

The core essence of this has to do with the internal world of the spirit that came about due to man’s body becoming fully engrossed in dense physical matter.  The old rules of outward spiritual perception didn’t apply anymore (except for a select few) and the concentrated incarnation of the Solar Christ Impulse during the Kali Yuga was to secure the ability of man to begin his upward ascension through the “Kingdom of Heaven Within“.

This has nothing to do with the elimination of temporal suffering- that is just another exoteric interpretation.  Rather it is an embrace of the suffering and “death” required to reach attainment.  It is about a full integration and alignment of our internal being with that of the Solar Light and the Light Beyond.  This takes someone who has a mindset of mastery, not the mindset of a slave.

Do we follow the hordes or do we rise above it all?

Jesus raised “the dead” (a term for one who was uninitiated into the Mysteries); he did not seek to become one of them.

Namaste and God Bless.

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

  • Gospel of Luke Chapter 2 verses 10-14

In his prose, “The Jewish Question in the Spiritual World”, 20th century Italian mystic and philosopher Julius Evola wrote:

The term ‘Semitic,’ as everyone knows, has a broader connotation than the word ‘Jewish’… the Jewish element cannot be clearly separated from the general type of civilization that in ancient times spread throughout the eastern Mediterranean, from Asia Minor to the edges of Arabia.”

The ideals of the Northern European peoples, especially in their relationships with the land and nature and their egalitarian relationships between men and women were very different from the Roman/Semitic cultures who formed the foundation of the Christian religion as we know it.  These cultures were largely based in brutal patriarchal dominance and the idea that nature was something to be subdued and utilized.  Ironically, it is the latter culture that has become synonymous with “Whiteness” and the cultural institutions of White Europeans.  Indeed, what we will see is that this cultural label is something that was imposed upon Northern/Western Europeans by a hostile Roman/Semitic cultural empire, as Evola expressed:

What characterizes the spirituality of Semitic civilizations in general? The destruction of the Aryan synthesis of virility and spirituality. Among the Semites we have on one hand, a crudely material and sensualistic, or coarsely and ferociously warlike (Assyria) expression of the virile principle; on the other, a de-virilised spirituality, a “lunar” and predominantly priestly relationship to the divine, the pathos of guilt and atonement, an impure and disordered romanticism, and, beside it, almost as an escape, a naturalistic and mathematically based contemplativism.”

While there are many aspects that make up a culture, and many of them are arguably superficial, it is the archetypal myths and spirituality that truly define them.  The spirituality that came out of the Semitic world is primarily understood by those versed in deep astrology and esoteric studies to be a collection Saturnian/Jovian and Lunar cults- something I addressed in my article, “The Abrahamic Question”.  The people of the arid deserts of the Middle East had a particular veneration for the “gods” of the night sky, and would have undoubtedly had a different perception and relationship with the Sun than did the people of the cold northern climates.

Among the gods of the night sky, Saturn had a special place in the Semitic mysteries.  The Roman senator and historian, Tacitus declared that the Jews considered this planet to have the most powerful influence on human life.  In Hebrew, Saturn is named “Shabtai”, and the Jewish Shabbat is on Saturday, or “Saturn’s Day”.  Saturn is understood as the god of linear time and matter.  Saturn or Cronus in Greek myth, is also known for being jealous and violent (a trait ascribed to the God of the Old Testament), Saturn was the god that ate his own children for fear they would usurp him.  Saturn is the god who accepts the sacrifice of children be it their whole bodies or just a piece of their genitals (i.e. infant circumcision).  He is El, which some may recognize as from the Biblical “Elohim” in the Old Testament.

The Romans also shared this veneration for Saturn, and even had an ancient festival called “Saturnalia” on what would have equated to the 23rd of December on the modern Gregorian calendar.  This festival was remarkably similar in nature to the ancient Semitic festivals of the goddess Inanna-Ishtar, marked by continual partying, a carnival-like atmosphere that overturned the social norms.

It is understood in many esoteric and occult circles, that the sphere Saturn stands in opposition to the Sun disc.  Saturn is understood to represent linear time, law and restrictions, matter and death; while the Sun is understood to represent the life, growth and the eternal and boundless spirit that never dies.  Saturn has also always represented the Age that has passed, while the Sun rises to new life eternal.  This opposition is mirrored in the figures of Christ and Satan, who are in turn reflections of the Zoroastrian (Indo-Iranian/Aryan religion) Ahura Mazda and Ahriman.  Looking at things this way, we can perhaps appreciate a deeper significance in what became the Bible.

During the time of the Roman Empire it is no secret that there were sects of Jews that were essentially bought off by the Roman Empire.  There were of course the Pharisees and Sadducees, as well as the various houses of nobility and wealthy Jewish merchant and banking elites.  Later on there was even intermarriage between some aristocratic Roman and Jewish/Semitic families (something that is not uncommon among elite families of different kingdoms for political purposes among others).  However, many Jews at that time were becoming increasingly upset with not only the foreign occupancy, but the corruption of their own civic as well as religious leaders.  This led to a serious of revolts and rebellions in Roman-occupied Judea, all of which were crushed by the Roman Empire.

However, by the reign of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great in the 4th century AD, the Roman Empire- the largest empire the world had ever seen, had fallen into a cycle of decadence and decay.  Rome was splintering and having the issues that large empires attempting to hold onto vast areas of land while incorporating large diverse populations do.

Constantine allowed Christianity, which at that time was an outlawed collective of diverse underground mystery cults and Judaic reform/zealot movements scattered throughout the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern world.  Constantine called the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, which made “official” which of the beliefs of the various Christian sects would be incorporated and which would be deemed heretical, and established the Roman Catholic (Universal) Church.  This formed the basis of what would become the “state religion” of the new Roman Empire.

What became Roman Christianity was then fashioned into a political and ideological weapon.   While some say that Rome “fell” in 455 AD after the sack of Rome, the truth is Rome didn’t fall, it simply changed its face.  It would be through the Vatican and the enormous wealth and political power that it wielded, that the empire known as “Rome” would live on, and continue to impose its will upon the rest of Europe.

But fortunately, even this officially sanctioned state religion of a Saturnian Empire struggling to maintain power could not ignore the undeniable Solar mythos that thrived not only in Northern Europe, but in the Mediterranean European world as well.  From an esoteric perspective, it could be said that much of human history as we know it has been a back and forth “struggle” between the Solar impulse and the Saturnian- and the peoples that personified and embodied them in mind, heart and deed.

In addition to the cult of Saturn, there was another cult that operated in Rome right up until the time of the establishment of the Church, and that was the cult of Sol Invictus (“Unconquered Sun”).  This cult was particularly popular among the reputably brave and disciplined Roman soldiers, to whom Sol Invictus was their patron deity.  There are some scholars who also will argue that the date of December 25th chosen officially for Christmas, also coincides with and its holy day of Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (Birthday of the Unconquered Sun). It is worth noting that references to this cult seemed to “disappear” right around the same time Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.  Of course, any casual study of Roman Christian symbolism will see that it is absolutely saturated with Solar references.

In the ancient Greco-Roman world, Jewish travelers and merchants who lived in the cosmopolitan cities like Athens and the Greco-Egyptian metropolis of Alexandria came in contact with Neoplatonic philosophy and its concept of “The Logos” or “Word”- the primal force of creation.  Many “Hellenized” Jews adopted these new ideas and infused them with their own beliefs- something that the nomadic Jews commonly did throughout their history.  One of the most famous of these Hellenized Jewish philosophers was Philo of Alexandria.

These “Gnostics” took a majority of their ideas from the Classical world, which in many respects, had been largely influenced by the Persian Aryan (that is what forms the root of “Iranian”) Empire, and its Zoroastrian religion.  The Persians were of course, Indo-Iranians are understood to be ethnic/racial cousins of the Indo-Europeans who included the Celtic and Norse-Germanic tribes.  The old Proto-Indo-Iranian religions have been shown by some scholars to have common themes that recur in the old Proto-Indo-European religions, particularly when it comes to solar symbolism and worship.  This again suggests a common cultural consciousness.

The Gnostic sects were known for a rejection of the Old Testament god as being an “imposter”- a blind arrogant “demiurge” who only created matter, but not the totality of the spiritual universe.  They were also known for the worship of the mother goddess Sophia, and her consort, the Christ.  Historically, Gnosticism could be understood as a reaction to the artifice and disconnection from that cosmopolitan life in ancient cities like Alexandria created.  These Gnostics were later deemed “heretics” and hunted down and persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church.

The Roman Church could not ignore the Solar mythos that saturated Europe and was part of its Indo-Aryan folk heritage, so it did the next best thing- it co-opted it.  It is perhaps that the forces behind the Empire sought not only to use this new “religion” to re-establish its political control on the people of Europe and the Middle East, but also attempt to subvert and stamp out the true Light that was coming through the various philosophies that became known as Gnosticism.

At their heart, these Gnostic practices were aimed at empowering the individual to tap into the force of “Sol Invictus” within themselves, and discover that, as Jesus said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is within”.  If we look at the deep esoteric interpretation of the Nativity Story on a “macro” level is a story describing how the Christ Light- the Light of the Eternal Sun- miraculously emerges out of the Womb of the Great Mother, which is the Void of Darkness from which the Light of Creation emerges. The Sun in the sky is the supreme physical manifestation of that Light.

However, this story is just as potent as it relates allegorically to the individual.  We see that “cave” where the savior is born has been known by many adepts to be the human skull.  Mary and Joseph within us are known to represent the pituitary and pineal glands within the brain, as well as the feminine “receptive” and masculine “active” portions of consciousness.  When these are brought into harmony through deep meditation, the two appear to create an area of reflective light, which can almost seem to be akin to light bouncing off two mirrors.  This creates the “manger” within where the child of Light is born in the solar plexus.  When the child is born, the animals in the manger; our animal natures; are tame and brought to peace.  Both the humble shepherds and the wise Magi bow down before the Light of the internal Sun.

Looking at this narrative, we might perhaps see a degenerated elite class that pays lip service to the spirit of the Sun, but seeking to hold onto their finite power they keep the religion of Saturn in their fearful hearts.  Like King Herod in the Nativity story, they are perhaps in terror of their own inevitable obsoletion, they have turned to a religion of the old decaying father that tries to devour the new rising Sun/Son.  In contrast we see the spirituality of the virile Sun that is unconquerable and rises through the strong and honorable who have the within them the infinite Life and Love of the Eternal Light of Creation.  This is a spirituality that has undeniably been best embodied in the cultures and consciousness of the Indo-Iranian/Aryan-European peoples, which have been a much-maligned gift to the world.

While all human beings have the Christ Light within, and are able to work with and use it, this Light is rarely ever fully realized.  Christ Jesus was a man who fully realized it.  There is much debate over who Jesus was, or whether he was even a historical person.  Some scholars present evidence suggesting Christ was a contrived character by the Romans and their historian Josepheus (an Israelite turn-coat) used as a tool for political control.  It is stated that he is a “composite’ of multiple characters from various religious and mystery school traditions.  The understanding I have is that Christ Jesus indeed did live.  Did he live when the bible suggests he lived?  Maybe, but maybe he lived a little earlier.  I don’t even know if he was indeed an Israelite, as the early Gnostic sects that taught the initiations of Christ the Logos (Word) were from all throughout Egypt, the Middle East, and Greece prior to the time attributed to Jesus.

Perhaps he was a revered teacher or advanced initiate in a mystery school who took the teachings to the masses.  Mystery schools were ancient centers of spiritual initiation and learning.  Precursors to modern secret societies, nearly all of the branches of modern knowledge and learning came out of these mystery schools.  This mystery school initiate would be a man who reached not only enlightenment, but a state of mastery over his body that allowed him to transmute into what is known as the “light body”- an ability said to be possessed by the most adept Taoist masters of the far-east.  Perhaps this man, being an anomaly due to his age and spiritual development developed a following and a mystery school.  Perhaps those of the more established orders of mystery tradition (maybe even some of a darker persuasion) grew jealous of this man’s abilities and saw him as a threat.  Perhaps the local governing body felt this way too.

creating a heavenly body

At some point, this man would have been betrayed by one of his followers, and crucified (probably on a tree).  Crucifixion was practiced by pre-Roman Persians, Macedonians, and Carthaginians, all of whom would have had active mystery school traditions.  However, having been a master of such an incredible degree, he would have undoubtedly been able to separate his light/spirit body from his flesh body and/or consciously go into the land of the dead and then return to his body and transmute the flesh to light entirely.

Christ Jesus, Yeshua Ben Joseph, or whatever the man’s name was; brought what were once secret teachings and initiations to the people.  He made spiritual growth and development that had only been available for a select chosen few, available to everyone.  There would have been many in his day that would have seen this as reprehensible.  They would have wished to silence this man.  However, any attempts to halt this transfer of the power was and is in vain.  The destruction of his physical body and the even more vile perversion of his message and teachings is still not enough.  This man has made the Solar Initiations and the voluntary evolution of human consciousness available to us in such a way that they became etched into the Earth and our very DNA.

In the end, the details of the story may only be known to the record book of creation, also known as the Akasha.  At some point in the middle part of the first “half” of humanity’s journey on this planet, a man was born.  This man’s body as well as his karma, was perfected and purified over many lifetimes so he would be capable of being the fully-realized embodiment of the spirit and consciousness of the Sun/Son; the Christ; in human form.  You may ask, “Why was this necessary?  Why would a great being like the Sun wish to become a man?”

Since the dawn of humankind, there have been great mystery traditions that performed initiation rituals centered on a great cosmic drama.  This involved the primordial Earth; which was seen as the physical incarnation of the great Mother- the feminine principle of the cosmos; and her lover, the primordial Sun.  This story also involved the being known as Saturn or Satan as Christians would come to know him.  When the material universe was being brought into existence, it is said that Saturn, the force of death and darkness attempted to strangulate the forces of life embodied within the Mother.  Thankfully for all of creation, the Sun/Son arrived and shined His Light onto the darkness and “the darkness comprehended it not”

It is said at this point the young, lion-like sun roared in victory, bringing the world into existence.  There was a time when the Sun and the Earth were one, until eventually the Sun moved on, claiming His place in the sky.  However, the forces of Saturn continued with its mission of causing matter to grow into denser and denser states of existence.  While it was necessary for this to happen, it was also necessary for the Sun/Son to step in once again to bring balance and re-inject that Life as only the Son can do.  Without this intervention the entirety of creation would have been calcified with all vibrancy and spirit squeezed out completely.  Thankfully this did not happen.

Toltec mythology; the wisdom tradition of the peoples of Meso-America recognized the sun as the source of life and light for the plantet, carrying and manifesting the message of creation throughout the solar system. As the sun perceives and reflects what is known as “the dream of Earth”, it knows the evolution of the “human dream”.  This is part of why it was necessary for this incarnation to happen in human form.  As the conscious “eyes and ears” of creation, human beings have a pivotal role to play in the “Great Work” of spiritualizing matter until all sense of separateness and illusion is dissolved.

Christ Jesus lived the Solar Initiations- the pattern and story of the Sun.  By doing this he made it possible for human beings to develop an internal relationship and path to the divine that had not been available before then.  By developing that relationship with the Christ within and living the mysteries, we affix the Light of Christ onto the wooden cross of our material existence.

It is said in the mystery traditions that the primordial Sun for a time was one with the Earth before separating, which was needed for physical human life to evolve and develop.  Within the Order I was initiated under, it is understood that when the Sun/Son incarnated as the man we have come to know as Christ Jesus and was crucified, his blood; his very essence went into the Earth, unifying with her.  At this point, Christ Jesus became the Oversoul (a spiritual atmosphere of sorts) of the planet.  The primordial lovers were united once again, and an element of balance was brought back to Earth.

It is also important to understand this as happening on an archetypal level as well.  Christ Jesus and his story is the story of humanity.  It is the Hero’s Journey as coined by Joseph Campbell- the timeless tale of the human experience towards discovering his/her higher nature.  Christ Jesus lives through us in our human experience when we receive and accept “the call” (see Tough Love posting).  We realize him in fullness when the mind, heart and will become balanced in a way that reflects the Light that dwells within us; the Love that we are shown through the Creator to our fellow beings; and living and understanding and working in harmony with the Life force that flows through all creation.

As I pointed out in my Spiritual Maturity posting, Christ is the archetype of the re-ascended man; referred to as the “Last Adam” by some theologians and mystics.  For those unfamiliar with the concept of an “archetype”, author, Jungian councilor and Buddhist practitioner describes archetypes as:

“the most ancient and universal ‘thought forms’ of humanity.  They are living entities, psychological instincts, or information fields that pattern human perception and experience… archetypes are like blueprints… to our experience.  They are the invisible stage managers behind the scenes of the world theater… Archetypes are not produced by us nor are they objects of the mind, but are self-existing, autonomous factors that are their own ‘living subjects’… they organize, inform and give shape to both the outer and inner dimensions, the world and our experience.”

It is very likely that the story of Christ Jesus as written in the bible, is a composite of astrotheology, internal spiritual experience, archetype, and the life of a flesh and blood man.  The ancients understood allegory in a way that is completely foreign to the modern mind with its “black or white” thinking.  Learning and understanding this has never taken away the reality of Christ Jesus for me.  If anything, it has given his story a richness and depth I would have never imagined.  In the end, whatever way you slice it Christ IS the “reason for the season”.

This time of year invokes a variety of different feelings and emotions.  Some see it as the “most wonderful time of the year”; a time for happiness and family and giving and good will towards men.  Others see it as the epitome of the commercial consumer society we have become.  Still others may have issues of seasonal depression coupled with “ghosts” of Christmas disappointments past.  Whatever your feelings (and many have a combination of the above or more), it is no doubt that during this time we are being compelled to feel a bit more than we may normally.  There is good reason for this and this reason stretches back into humanity’s ancient past.

Our ancestors lived a life that was very reliant on the changing of the seasons and the weather patterns these changes brought.  Without the convenience of supermarkets and indoor heating, the time of winter was seen as a dark time; a time to get “comfortable” with death (see my post on Samhain).  With this intimate connection and dependence on the land and the seasons, our ancient ancestors knew how to read the stars and the patterns of the sun and moon so as to know what to expect.  They had a deep understanding of how these celestial bodies effect life on this planet in a way that has been largely forgotten in today’s society.

The longest night of the winter solstice was a time when the sun appeared to “die”.  During a three day period (which ends Christmas eve), the sun resides in the vicinity of the Southern Cross constellation and appears to ‘hang’ on the cross until it then would “rise again”, or be “born”;  gaining in strength and intensity until the summer solstice.  This “birth” or “rebirth” of the sun heralded to the ancients that the time of darkness and death was inevitably going to be on its way out.  Their savior had been born.

This also coincides with astrology and the 12 houses of the zodiac, which guide the procession of each “age”.  During the spring equinox, the sun rises in the constellation of the zodiac that “rules” the age (it has currently been rising in the constellation of Pices for the past 2000+ years).  The zodiac also has a “cross” that coincides with the mysteries of spring and Easter.  We would do well to realize that the stars and planets are not just balls of gas and rock in the sky, but rather multi-dimensional bodied beings with a consciousness so vast it is like nothing we can even fathom.

This is the solar pattern that is etched into the physical world by the primary physical manifestation of the Christ Light in this sphere, the sun.  I’m sure some folks may be saying, “But what about Jesus?”;  I will explain this in part 2, but first let us talk about the Christ and for this we will go to John chapter 1:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.  In him was Light, and the Light was the life of men.  And the Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not”.

Interestingly, there is a verse by Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism that mirrors this verse.  He speaks of the Clear Light, which is described as the “child of Rigpa”- Rigpa being the primordial ground of creation and awareness.  This “Clear Light” is pure and “unborn”, yet it is ours inherently to find within ourselves.  Through my initiations into the priesthood I have come to realize and understand the following about the nature of the Christ:

  1. It is Light, it brings Life and it emanates Love.
  2. It is the primordial Light that is behind ALL forms and manifestations of light in all physical, semi-physical, and non-physical planes or “realms” of existence.
  3. It is the primordial vibration that sings all things into existence (remember that the physical world is composed of light vibrations).
  4. In our realm of existence, the prime form of the Christ is the conscious being known as the Sun.
  5. The Light encompasses ALL of creation and dwells within everything; including you and me.
  6. This indwelling Christ Light has a physical location: it lies just beneath the heart in the area known as the solar plexus.  When you bring your attention to and focus on this area in periods of meditation, you will see and more importantly, feel It.

While there is an external astrotheology (“religious” stories based upon the movements and transitions of the sun, moon, planets and stars) to the story of the birth of Christ, there is also the internal story that plays out as well.  The “cave” where the savior is born has been known by many adepts to be the human skull.

And it is the simplicity of the shepard who is first to come to it; by simplifying our lives and our nature, we come to Christ and reach a point of being truly “wise men”.  At least this has been my experience.  I encourage all to practice and experience this phenomenon for themselves.

We are all affected by the forces of the sun and other celestial bodies that surround us, regardless of how detached from the natural world our species has become and regardless of whatever belief system we subscribe to.  This being said, this process of the “death” and “rebirth” of the sun affects our internal feelings and emotions.  We are reflections of the “external” world and the “external” world is a reflection of our “internal” world (in truth, they are both the same).  When we approach this time of transition consciously, understanding the processes that are happening, we can utilize these “external” and “internal” forces to achieve great spiritual growth and transformation.  When we open ourselves to fully experiencing the birth within us, we are further purified and are allowing the Great Work of “spiritualizing” the material plane to be done through us.

JOHN 8:31-32
Then said Jesus unto those Jews which believed on him, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

IGNORANCE (taken from the Gnostic Gospel of Philip)
Ignorance is the mother of all evil.
Ignorance will eventuate in death,
Because those who come from ignorance
Neither were nor are nor will be.
But those who are in truth will be perfect
When all the truth is revealed.
For truth is like ignorance: while hidden it rests in itself,
But when revealed and recognized,
It is praised in that it is stronger than ignorance and error.
It gives freedom. The Word said,
“If you know the truth, the truth shall set you free.”
Ignorance is a slave,
Knowledge is freedom.
If we know the truth, we shall find the fruits of the truth within us.
If we join it, it will fulfill us.

MATTHEW 12:24-25
But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.” And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand..”

Today we are going to talk about truth, ignorance, the Law, and Unity, and how these things affect our experience in this world. Jesus said, “ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”

This implies there is actually such a thing as truth. Though it may sound strange to say that, there is actually an ingrained belief system that has been implanted in the mass mind that essentially states that there is no such thing as truth, or that truth is unknowable. The mass or collective mind of humanity functions very similar to a computer and will autonomously ‘update’ itself, but it can also be programmed. The ideology referred to is known as “solipsism”. The word itself is derived from the Latin solus, which means “alone”, and the Latin ipse, which means self. It is essentially the ideology that one’s own mind or more accurately, their ego mind is the only thing that can be known to exist. This common post-modern belief essentially states that there is no such thing as objective truth or even moral truth. It states that truth is impossible to know, so why bother even trying?

Reasoning for attempting to find and understand truth can be found in the passage from the Gospel of Philip: “Ignorance is a slave, knowledge is freedom. If we know the truth, we shall find the fruits of the truth within us. If we join it, it will fulfill us.”

Essentially it is stating that the truth and knowledge of it (gnosis) equates to freedom. Ignorance of the truth is slavery, which also implies the presence of a master, or controller- a person, group of persons, or other force that enslaves. Tied up in this as well, is the presence of the lie- the thing that makes ignorance of the truth possible. Truth by its very nature is simple and easy to understand, when one is ready to do so. Lies are always intentionally complicated, creating a maze to keep one from the truth. The truth of the Light of Christ and the Way, for example, is incredibly simple. It’s not easy (at all), but it is simple.

The underlying purpose of ideologies like solipsism, nihilism, and the myriad of other belief systems created by institutions, individuals of influence, and our own egos, is to obfuscate the truth. Now this is not to say that there may be some outward complexities to the truth, which is why developing the mind and developing understanding is a key component of growth, but at its core, the truth remains simple. Obfuscation of the truth is to make things look and seem impossibly complicated to the point where people become confused and bewildered, causing them to give up looking, as they believe it is impossible. This is a prime method of any group looking to maintain control of a population. This is also a prime method of your own ego and the oppositional forces that dwell within you that wish to maintain their own rule over you and keep things as they are- keeping you away from the Light of Self that is the truth of who you are.

I’m not going to say that just one type of truth is important, or even that there is such a thing as a type of truth. All things are in God and God is in all things. It is important to see ALL things- people, institutions, situations and experiences- for what they are, and for all the tinted lenses of preference and perception to be discarded. Truth is the nature of the Light. Lies and ignorance are the nature of darkness which in the ultimate sense do not exist, but in the functional sense, it is absolutely something we have to deal with and let us not be deluded into thinking we can whiz around it somehow.

So why does ignorance of truth and its existence make one a slave? There are a few different reasons, but today I’m going to talk about the truth that is the Law of Creation and its existence, and how knowledge or ignorance of it is a deciding factor of one’s lot in life. I’m sure most people here are somewhat familiar with the Law of Manifestation, but for those may not be, I am going to quote the late Father Paul, founder of the Holy Order of MANS:

“The Law is the Great Formula which the Creator set in the Solar Pattern of the universe so that His Creations would have freedom- one of the most important of all things… The Law by which things manifest in the world or your life, is the process of or means of using the creative power which brings all things into manifestation. It is the ‘Living Formula’ of all mankind WHETHER YOU KNOW IT OR NOT.”

And I might add, whether you believe it as true or not. The Law is observable and will function regardless of whether or not you are aware of it. Essentially, the Law is God in action, aka, the Holy Spirit. It exists, it is observable, it is workable, and belief has NOTHING to do with it. This is science in its purest form. There are many different styles and approaches to working with the Law, and they are referred to by names such as visualization, prayer, magick and sorcery. The differences lie in the rituals surrounding them and the nature of the intentions involved.

My first exposure to the Law was through a film version of the popular New Age book, The Secret. It talks about using the Law to attract and manifest what you want into your life: a new job, a new car, a new girlfriend. I thought it was pretty cool stuff. I read Shakti Gawain’s book Creative Visualization, I started getting into magick, and I’ll tell you what, it DOES work. The problem that I found with things like The Secret in retrospect as I became more spiritually mature was that it was seemingly all about satisfying the ego. It was about fulfilling materialistic desire and spoke very little about selfless service, and only seemed to show using the law of karma to satisfy selfish ends. I will also add that there are definitely consequences to using this recklessly, especially if there are other people involved in the fulfilment of your desire. The old saying “be careful for what you wish for, because you just might get it” is painfully true.

However, these bumpy roads and potential diversions led me to where I am today- literally. I used the Law of attraction/manifestation to bring myself to Oregon. I used it to bring about the current job I have. I visualize what is desired as clearly as possible; I feel how it would feel to have it occur, placing myself as though I was ‘there’; I assume it to already be done, and I surrender the prayer/desire to the Creator. Then I do the work to ‘build the vessel’ for the prayer to manifest- keeping my eyes and ears open for opportunities and doing the ground work necessary to assist in manifestation. Now, sometimes, a lot of labor isn’t necessary for outcomes to manifest after you have visualized them. Sometimes you can just visualize events in your mind clearly and have them manifest before your eyes. I often will do this playing cards or playing pool with my girlfriend (she HATES it when I do that); but when it comes to the important things, YOU CAN’T JUST SIT AROUND AND WAIT FOR STUFF TO HAPPEN. This is the Age of Activity, after all.

Equally important are learning that the LAW also has certain principles that allow one to better understand and work with it in a conscious manner. These have been known since the days of Ancient Egypt and Greece, but probably go back much, much further to a time “lost”. These principles were brilliantly laid out and explained in the Hermetic text, The Kybalion:

Embodies the truth that “All is Mind”- The universe is mental in nature and functions accordingly. We all “live and move and have our being” in the Mind of God. This principle explains the true nature of energy, power and matter, and how these are all subordinate to the mastery of mind.
“As above, so below; as below, so above”- This is the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of Being and Life. This principle allows us to understand that which would otherwise seem unknowable. The events that take place in the world of men and matter, reflect things happening in the psychic levels of existence, which in turn reflect things happening in the spiritual levels above that.
“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates”- The material universe is comprised of light vibrations that vibrate at different rates. The vibratory resonance that is the Word comprises the totality of creation. Understanding this enables us to control our own mental vibrations as well as affect those around us.
“Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.”- Opposites are in reality just varying degrees of the same thing- hot and cold are just the two poles in the measurement of heat, so ultimately, heat is what’s real. Light and dark are two poles in the measurement of light, so ultimately light is what’s real. These same principles can be applied to love and fear; life and death; bringing us to the realization that we live in universe that is comprised of Light, Life and Love, where darkness, fear and death are not real in and of themselves.
“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of swing to the left; rhythm compensates.”- This embodies the truth that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, to and fro; a flow and inflow; a swing backward and forward. There is always and action and reaction in all things in nature as well as in the mental states of man. Studying this principle opens us to ways of counteracting, neutralizing, and using the rhythms of the universe in correspondence with the Will.
“Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law”- This is the truth that nothing ever ‘merely happens’, there is no such thing as chance, as nothing ever entirely escapes the Law. There is always a REASON something happened, whether we understand it or not. “The masses of people are carried along, obedient to environment, the wills and desires of others stronger than themselves; heredity; suggestion; and other outward causes moving them about like pawns on the chessboard of life. But the masters, rising to the plane above, dominate their moods, character, qualities and powers, as well as the environment surrounding them, and become movers instead of pawns. They help to play the game of life, instead of being played and moved about by other wills and the environment. They use the principle instead of being its tools.”
“Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests of all planes”- This embodies the truth that there is gender manifested in everything. We can see this in our consciousness with the active masculine thinking mind that seeds the receptive subconscious mind and brings us our personal reality. Everything and everyone contains both masculine and feminine principles. “The principle of gender works ever in the direction of generation, regeneration, and creation.”

Father Paul stated:

“Let us realize the power and the potential which the human intellect cannot fathom until it accepts the universal principles which are never respecters of persons; for the Law will work for one man the same as it will another.”

This can be a hard pill for some, but “He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and he lets rain fall on the righteous and the unrighteous alike.”

Father Paul talked about those who use the Law for negative means, stating “They’re determined to run the earth and their world the way they want to.”

These are people who know how to use the Law very effectively to manipulate the mass mind, preying on the general public’s ignorance of how the Law, in combination with the Word and symbolism work. They are essentially the masters of the world of things that are “made” (as opposed to the world of things that are “Created”); the world of ultimate illusion; the dream inside the dream. Yes, there is more than one dream going on, but this only because the bulk of humanity has abdicated their power and responsibility, allowing this to be.

A form of sorcery known as Qlippothic is used to manipulate people via their minds (remember that first Principle of Mentalism) through the use of words, colors, symbols and imagery, combining to create spells. If one understands how this works, one can see these “spells” all around us. The Qlippoth are the opposing or “dark” sides of the Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Drawn from the Kabbalah system of occult mysticism that was given to Moses, but more than likely was understood by those older still, this Tree of Life is essentially looked at as the blueprint of creation. While using the spheres of the Sephiroth fosters light and liberation, using the spheres of the Qlippoth fosters darkness and enslavement. Dark occultists manipulate the mind through working with the “shadow” of a person. They work with what is thrown off as projections of the conscious mind into the sub-conscious mind (a shadow is a thrown off projection of an object as a result of light). It should also be noted that the dark occultist views the Zodiac and the world of matter as a prison for the soul, rather than a place for the soul to have experiences so it can learn and grow. The dark occultists see themselves as the wardens of this “prison”. This demonstrates the power of world-view and intent in the process of manifestation.

Some of these dark occultists have great wealth, power and knowledge. Some are purportedly the most wealthy, powerful men in the world. Regardless of the sparse amount of what would be considered as hard proof for the above statement, (But then again, why would there be? Although I would recommend the work and testimonies of former dark occultist, Mark Passio), the rich and powerful do dominate human civilization and they do use and understand the Law very effectively. In the early 20th century, a professor named Napoleon Hill interviewed some of the richest, most powerful men of the time- names like Carnegie, Rockefellar, Roosevelt, Ford, and Edison- and asked them how they were able to accumulate such a tremendous degree of wealth. He eventually put this into a book entitled, Think and Grow Rich, in which he outlined the 6 steps for the attainment of desire or “riches”:

1. Fix your mind on exactly what you want to manifest. Be clear and definite. There are psychological reasons for making something definitive.
2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for what you desire. There is no such reality as something for nothing.
3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess what you desire.
4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
5. Write out a clear, concise statement of what or how much(if concerning money) you intend to acquire, name a time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for it, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
6. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read- see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of what you desire.

Sounds kinda familiar, right? Thomas Edison said that he saw these steps as “being not only the steps essential for the accumulation of money, but necessary for the attainment of any definite goal.” Whatever you may feel about the motivations of some of these folks, the fact of the matter is that things don’t just happen to them, they make things happen. These are the men that essentially created the modern world that we live in and the institutions that most of us have become subservient to in some fashion or other. That is their legacy.

Whatever your feelings about all that are, that fact remains that if we are ignorant of the Law, we will be subject to the whims and at the mercy (or lack thereof) of those who are not ignorant of it; those who will use it as means of control to shape the world, human society, and as a result, our lives, as they see fit. If we are ignorant of the Law, we will not be co-creators of our reality, but unwitting participants in someone else’s dream.

So we can begin to see how ignorance of the truth of the Law keeps the majority of humanity caught in a seemingly endless rat-race, able to be duped and manipulated by those with selfish ends, but there is more to it than just deception. It should also be noted that those who do manipulate the mass mind are the reflections of the darkest, most unresolved aspects of the collective psyche that are hidden away from the Light out of pure fear and desire to maintain an illusion.
Jesus said, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.”

Division keeps people from being able to unify and direct energy outward to effect change in the world. This is true on both the individual level and the collective level; internally and externally. Internal division negates one’s ability to effectively utilize the Law and understand its principles. Those who use the Law to control the mass mind are internally (and often externally) united with singular focus, albeit arguably a less than honorable one. Again, the Law is indifferent to motivations and will work for one whose “eye is single”- whose focus and intent is clear and unwavering, and whose knowledge of the principles is keen.

All this is not to say that the law of Karma is ever suspended for anyone, but let’s remember that the puppet-master uses the puppet so that he doesn’t get his or her hands dirty. They don’t do the dirty work and are able to do a side step out of the way of the more immediate wrath of Karma. Karma does not care if the puppet was ‘just following orders’ or ‘just doing their job’; it treats all who violate the free will of others, especially in a hands-on, physical sense, as willing offenders. This goes for those on both ‘sides’ of “man’s law”, which in and of itself is an illusion and more often than not actually violates the true Law and Its Principles. The Natural Law Principles of the Universe do not need any one to enforce them, and any individual or group of individual’s attempts at the restriction and violation of the divine right of free will in another individual or group, regardless of “justification” is a violation of True Law. Again Karma, the Natural Law enforcer, is ALWAYS on duty. One need only look at the outcomes of the “justice” system in America and see how well it is working.

All reap what they themselves sow in the world, which is why we must be truly conscious and brutally honest with ourselves when it comes to what we are ACTUALLY DOING right here and now in the present moment. Not what we or anyone else believes our actions to stand for in some ‘noble cause’ or represent in some manner of ‘required duty’. Point blank- are your actions causing harm to someone right now? Are your actions causing or enabling some form of suffering right now? Are your actions in some way taking away the freedom and free will of someone right now? Are your actions betraying your own truth and the Light within you right now? If they are, then we need to do the work to change that.

While it should not be our prime motivator, let us remember that living in accordance with the Law and Principles of creation especially when it comes to the two commandments of Jesus: ‘love God with all your heart, mind and will, and love thy neighbor as yourself’- allow one to reap the rewards of Karma, as She is not just a punisher. That last commandment of love thy neighbor gives us the realization that our neighbor in essence is us, so by taking away their freedom in some capacity, we are taking away our own and violating ourselves: we are dividing ourselves. Why would we want to do that?

Human beings are always using the Law to create the circumstances of their lives and it always exists regardless of our understanding or beliefs. We cannot help but do so, as it is our innate nature as creators made in the image of THE Creator. However, internal chaos and division and lack of understanding of the Law and its principles, creates a life of seemingly random and chaotic events, even though all things that happen to us were enabled by us and have very logical origins if we do the work to know ourselves truly.
This chaos can show up in drama-filled interpersonal relationships, and perpetual cycles of misfortune that are quite often manifested by either psychological conflicts existing within the person that need to be resolved or a deeper lesson that is needing to be learned. A wise man once said, “look at your life and you’ll see what you’ve been praying for”. Like energy attracts like energy. If we refuse to do the work of bringing ourselves into unity, and choose to remain ignorant and/or lazy, then we will continue to be slaves to a myriad of seemingly external forces. I know that may sound a bit harsh, but it is true and I have experienced this reality in my own life. You could say I have ‘gnosis’ or experiential knowledge of this truth.

As we think, so we feel, so we act. If we do the work to bring the mind, heart and Will- the higher will as opposed to the will of the ego- into alignment, we will bring ourselves into a state of sovereignty, or self-rule, or self-mastery. It is at this point when true freedom becomes possible. When we begin to reach that point, we will find ourselves able to influence our personal sphere with the healing Light, and as our self-mastery becomes more evolved, the further we can extend ourselves and our sphere in a conscious way. I would say it is our duty to do at this time of transition. It is our responsibility to know the Law and Its Principles and to get right with God and our-Self.

You may or may not believe everything or anything I have just said, and that is okay. I am not here to get you to believe anything, nor would I want you to. I am simply here to convey the truth as I understand it. I am here to do what I can to assist in tearing down the heavy walls of ignorance, illusion, and darkness and aid in the construction of a new structure of Light- spiritualized matter: the New Heaven and New Earth.

So as we bring ourselves further away from ignorance and darkness into truth, Light and understanding of the Law and its principles; and as we work on developing our internal sovereignty, extending our use of the Law into the world, growing in spiritual strength as a result; let us be mindful of the divine right of free will of the individual and the statement that “with great power comes great responsibility”. Let us never lose sight that we are working toward the liberation of ALL beings, lest corruptions of desire, ambition, and ego set in and make us part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. Let us see the raw potentiality of all human beings and strive to do what we can to help make that manifest.

FATHER AND CHILD (Taken from the Gospel of Philip)
What a father has belongs to his child,
But not while the child is still little.
When the child is grown, however,
Then the father turns over all he possesses.

For the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for edifying the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure and stature of the fullness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Today we are going to look at the idea of “maturity” and readiness as it is reflected in these two passages, and how this is played out on the level of both the individual as well as the collective. Paul talks about how Christ “equips his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

When I started my conscious spiritual path 13 years ago, I was very enamored with the spiritual world and what it was doing for me on a self-serving level. However, I had no real concept of the purpose of service or how reaching out in compassionate service to others was a key component of spiritual growth. I was not spiritually mature or really mature in many other respects and it began to show. My quest for spiritual enlightenment had a foundation of sand.

True spiritual growth requires a real level of maturity as it gives one great power, and to quote Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben: “With great power comes great responsibility”. That is why the Gospel of Philip states that while what the Father has indeed does belong to the child, it is not given while the child is still a child.
From my own experience, I have found that there are times when we will see and hear quick glimpses and far-away voices of what could be, but we are not quite up to the task of getting there because our maturity is not where it needs to be to fully receive this. It is through this maturity that allows us as Paul says, “the fullness of Christ”

Paul goes on to say, “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”
When we are children, we begin to develop our sense of self we see the world as revolving around us and this is fairly normal and natural. What is not normal or natural is when people remain in this state of mind into and through adulthood. The British sociologist, Kingsley Dennis has a lot to say on the phenomenon of adult infancy:

“Infantile behavior is part of the cultural conditioning, because we want to be accepted; we have this fear of freedom…It’s so engrained in us that anyone who wears a lab coat, or anyone who wears a uniform of authority, we’re nodding our heads and doing anything to please them. That’s engrained from infant-hood; this wanting to be given approval; and that infancy has stayed with us.” He goes on to say how “the artificial social norms have been distracting people into these very infantile, basic psychology levels, and so it’s very difficult to have the luxury to develop our inner self- actualization”

Local author and spiritual practitioner, and therapist Paul Levy stated in his book, Dispelling Weitiko that, “People who are not fully in touch with themselves and therefore haven’t developed their own center of independent thought, self-reflective awareness, and ability to discriminate are highly suggestible to being manipulated…to take on a viewpoint other than their own”

For quite a while, I felt like I was looking for someone who “knew better” to tell me what I should do or think in certain regards. Letting go of this desire and trusting Self and your internal knowing is a key to spiritual maturity. Ya gotta grow up and have faith you can stand on your own two feet.

It wasn’t until I was really willing to begin to let go of deeply held beliefs, illusions and delusions that the process of psychological and spiritual maturity began to take place in me. It is still taking place as we speak. It won’t be until humanity is able to go through a similar process of ‘growing up’ on a large scale, that we will be able to real our collective spiritual maturity. Now, it could be said that humanity is being unwittingly kept it that state to varying degrees, but that is a subject for another time.

We finish this verse with Paul stating how we grow out of this state of infancy: “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”

We are the Body of Christ. Humanity is the Body of Christ. Jesus has been referred to as the Last Adam or the New Adam. First Adam or Original Adam was the original state of man, who descended from the Father-Mother, down through the densest states of matter. Jesus, on an archetypal level is the purified and re-ascended man. That is what we need to be striving for as individuals and as a collective humanity. We need to be working towards internal purification and developing our spiritual maturity. This will in turn, allow us to empower our brothers and sisters to do the same.

Truth and Love are essential to the process of purification and ascension. This requires us doing the work needed to bring ourselves to a place where we are ready to receive the gifts of spirit. We need to take personal responsibility for our own growing up process. This requires honesty and compassion. When we get there, we have brought humanity one step closer to fully actualizing the Body of Christ and re-ascending as purified grown-up Beings of Light.

Changing Our Relationship to Our Thoughts and Ourselves

MARK 4:36-40
And when they had sent away the multitude, they took with him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on the pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?

After I was ordained, I agreed to go with my partner on a trip to the Oregon coast. She absolutely loves the coast. Myself, I’m not always the biggest fan. It seems like it is always ridiculously windy and cold, and the water is even colder, no matter what time of year it is. I guess I got spoiled with the Gulf Stream on the east coast where the water actually gets warm in the summer.

Sure enough, we got there and it was incredibly windy and I was under-dressed as I tend to be every time I go there. We made our way to the beach, and while she wandered off, I made my way up the beach in search of a place where the wind was tolerable for me. I eventually made my way to a flat rock that was able to act as a perfect seat for me, and sat.

I looked down at the sand and watched it sparkle and dance as the wind carried it across the beach. I saw the clouds rushing across the sky and watched the waves come in. I found serenity at that point. It was still chilly, and the wind was still blowing pretty hard, but it no longer bothered me as I had changed my relationship to it.

In the gospel, the winds that stir the waves represent our thoughts. When our thoughts are wild and out of control, they inevitably stir up our emotions, which can sometimes get us into trouble.  It seems like some folks in various meditation disciplines and spiritual circles somewhat demonize thoughts and mental activity as a nuisance; as something we would be better off without. But we do have thoughts, and it is a beautiful and wonderful thing that we are able to be consciously aware, self-reflective beings capable of manifesting thoughts, which manifest into action, which can manifest into wonderful things on this Earth. It is not the thoughts or the process of thinking that causes us problems, but rather our relationship to them and to ourselves that gives us issues.

When we change our relationship to our thoughts and our being, we can begin to see things as they truly are and see the beauty in things that we may have not been able to see before. As I sat there and watched the scenery on the beach, I thought of how even the coldest winds and the darkest clouds have beauty. How often have we chosen to ignore or even demonize those cold winds and dark clouds that reside within us? How often have we run away from them instead of fearlessly trying to understand them?

And as I sat, and goose-bumps began to form, the Sun came through the clouds, its warmth radiating though my body, giving me relief from the chill. Just as Jesus calmed the tempest, the Sunlight/Son-Light within us can calm and bring peace to any inner storms we may have. We may have to sit through the winds and the cold, but if we hold steadfast and keep a good relationship with Self, the Light will always come and provide us with comfort and relief. Because no matter how heavy the clouds are, or how dark the sky is, the Sun/Son is ALWAYS there.
