“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

  • Gospel of Luke Chapter 2 verses 10-14

In his prose, “The Jewish Question in the Spiritual World”, 20th century Italian mystic and philosopher Julius Evola wrote:

The term ‘Semitic,’ as everyone knows, has a broader connotation than the word ‘Jewish’… the Jewish element cannot be clearly separated from the general type of civilization that in ancient times spread throughout the eastern Mediterranean, from Asia Minor to the edges of Arabia.”

The ideals of the Northern European peoples, especially in their relationships with the land and nature and their egalitarian relationships between men and women were very different from the Roman/Semitic cultures who formed the foundation of the Christian religion as we know it.  These cultures were largely based in brutal patriarchal dominance and the idea that nature was something to be subdued and utilized.  Ironically, it is the latter culture that has become synonymous with “Whiteness” and the cultural institutions of White Europeans.  Indeed, what we will see is that this cultural label is something that was imposed upon Northern/Western Europeans by a hostile Roman/Semitic cultural empire, as Evola expressed:

What characterizes the spirituality of Semitic civilizations in general? The destruction of the Aryan synthesis of virility and spirituality. Among the Semites we have on one hand, a crudely material and sensualistic, or coarsely and ferociously warlike (Assyria) expression of the virile principle; on the other, a de-virilised spirituality, a “lunar” and predominantly priestly relationship to the divine, the pathos of guilt and atonement, an impure and disordered romanticism, and, beside it, almost as an escape, a naturalistic and mathematically based contemplativism.”

While there are many aspects that make up a culture, and many of them are arguably superficial, it is the archetypal myths and spirituality that truly define them.  The spirituality that came out of the Semitic world is primarily understood by those versed in deep astrology and esoteric studies to be a collection Saturnian/Jovian and Lunar cults- something I addressed in my article, “The Abrahamic Question”.  The people of the arid deserts of the Middle East had a particular veneration for the “gods” of the night sky, and would have undoubtedly had a different perception and relationship with the Sun than did the people of the cold northern climates.

Among the gods of the night sky, Saturn had a special place in the Semitic mysteries.  The Roman senator and historian, Tacitus declared that the Jews considered this planet to have the most powerful influence on human life.  In Hebrew, Saturn is named “Shabtai”, and the Jewish Shabbat is on Saturday, or “Saturn’s Day”.  Saturn is understood as the god of linear time and matter.  Saturn or Cronus in Greek myth, is also known for being jealous and violent (a trait ascribed to the God of the Old Testament), Saturn was the god that ate his own children for fear they would usurp him.  Saturn is the god who accepts the sacrifice of children be it their whole bodies or just a piece of their genitals (i.e. infant circumcision).  He is El, which some may recognize as from the Biblical “Elohim” in the Old Testament.

The Romans also shared this veneration for Saturn, and even had an ancient festival called “Saturnalia” on what would have equated to the 23rd of December on the modern Gregorian calendar.  This festival was remarkably similar in nature to the ancient Semitic festivals of the goddess Inanna-Ishtar, marked by continual partying, a carnival-like atmosphere that overturned the social norms.

It is understood in many esoteric and occult circles, that the sphere Saturn stands in opposition to the Sun disc.  Saturn is understood to represent linear time, law and restrictions, matter and death; while the Sun is understood to represent the life, growth and the eternal and boundless spirit that never dies.  Saturn has also always represented the Age that has passed, while the Sun rises to new life eternal.  This opposition is mirrored in the figures of Christ and Satan, who are in turn reflections of the Zoroastrian (Indo-Iranian/Aryan religion) Ahura Mazda and Ahriman.  Looking at things this way, we can perhaps appreciate a deeper significance in what became the Bible.

During the time of the Roman Empire it is no secret that there were sects of Jews that were essentially bought off by the Roman Empire.  There were of course the Pharisees and Sadducees, as well as the various houses of nobility and wealthy Jewish merchant and banking elites.  Later on there was even intermarriage between some aristocratic Roman and Jewish/Semitic families (something that is not uncommon among elite families of different kingdoms for political purposes among others).  However, many Jews at that time were becoming increasingly upset with not only the foreign occupancy, but the corruption of their own civic as well as religious leaders.  This led to a serious of revolts and rebellions in Roman-occupied Judea, all of which were crushed by the Roman Empire.

However, by the reign of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great in the 4th century AD, the Roman Empire- the largest empire the world had ever seen, had fallen into a cycle of decadence and decay.  Rome was splintering and having the issues that large empires attempting to hold onto vast areas of land while incorporating large diverse populations do.

Constantine allowed Christianity, which at that time was an outlawed collective of diverse underground mystery cults and Judaic reform/zealot movements scattered throughout the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern world.  Constantine called the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, which made “official” which of the beliefs of the various Christian sects would be incorporated and which would be deemed heretical, and established the Roman Catholic (Universal) Church.  This formed the basis of what would become the “state religion” of the new Roman Empire.

What became Roman Christianity was then fashioned into a political and ideological weapon.   While some say that Rome “fell” in 455 AD after the sack of Rome, the truth is Rome didn’t fall, it simply changed its face.  It would be through the Vatican and the enormous wealth and political power that it wielded, that the empire known as “Rome” would live on, and continue to impose its will upon the rest of Europe.

But fortunately, even this officially sanctioned state religion of a Saturnian Empire struggling to maintain power could not ignore the undeniable Solar mythos that thrived not only in Northern Europe, but in the Mediterranean European world as well.  From an esoteric perspective, it could be said that much of human history as we know it has been a back and forth “struggle” between the Solar impulse and the Saturnian- and the peoples that personified and embodied them in mind, heart and deed.

In addition to the cult of Saturn, there was another cult that operated in Rome right up until the time of the establishment of the Church, and that was the cult of Sol Invictus (“Unconquered Sun”).  This cult was particularly popular among the reputably brave and disciplined Roman soldiers, to whom Sol Invictus was their patron deity.  There are some scholars who also will argue that the date of December 25th chosen officially for Christmas, also coincides with and its holy day of Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (Birthday of the Unconquered Sun). It is worth noting that references to this cult seemed to “disappear” right around the same time Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.  Of course, any casual study of Roman Christian symbolism will see that it is absolutely saturated with Solar references.

In the ancient Greco-Roman world, Jewish travelers and merchants who lived in the cosmopolitan cities like Athens and the Greco-Egyptian metropolis of Alexandria came in contact with Neoplatonic philosophy and its concept of “The Logos” or “Word”- the primal force of creation.  Many “Hellenized” Jews adopted these new ideas and infused them with their own beliefs- something that the nomadic Jews commonly did throughout their history.  One of the most famous of these Hellenized Jewish philosophers was Philo of Alexandria.

These “Gnostics” took a majority of their ideas from the Classical world, which in many respects, had been largely influenced by the Persian Aryan (that is what forms the root of “Iranian”) Empire, and its Zoroastrian religion.  The Persians were of course, Indo-Iranians are understood to be ethnic/racial cousins of the Indo-Europeans who included the Celtic and Norse-Germanic tribes.  The old Proto-Indo-Iranian religions have been shown by some scholars to have common themes that recur in the old Proto-Indo-European religions, particularly when it comes to solar symbolism and worship.  This again suggests a common cultural consciousness.

The Gnostic sects were known for a rejection of the Old Testament god as being an “imposter”- a blind arrogant “demiurge” who only created matter, but not the totality of the spiritual universe.  They were also known for the worship of the mother goddess Sophia, and her consort, the Christ.  Historically, Gnosticism could be understood as a reaction to the artifice and disconnection from that cosmopolitan life in ancient cities like Alexandria created.  These Gnostics were later deemed “heretics” and hunted down and persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church.

The Roman Church could not ignore the Solar mythos that saturated Europe and was part of its Indo-Aryan folk heritage, so it did the next best thing- it co-opted it.  It is perhaps that the forces behind the Empire sought not only to use this new “religion” to re-establish its political control on the people of Europe and the Middle East, but also attempt to subvert and stamp out the true Light that was coming through the various philosophies that became known as Gnosticism.

At their heart, these Gnostic practices were aimed at empowering the individual to tap into the force of “Sol Invictus” within themselves, and discover that, as Jesus said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is within”.  If we look at the deep esoteric interpretation of the Nativity Story on a “macro” level is a story describing how the Christ Light- the Light of the Eternal Sun- miraculously emerges out of the Womb of the Great Mother, which is the Void of Darkness from which the Light of Creation emerges. The Sun in the sky is the supreme physical manifestation of that Light.

However, this story is just as potent as it relates allegorically to the individual.  We see that “cave” where the savior is born has been known by many adepts to be the human skull.  Mary and Joseph within us are known to represent the pituitary and pineal glands within the brain, as well as the feminine “receptive” and masculine “active” portions of consciousness.  When these are brought into harmony through deep meditation, the two appear to create an area of reflective light, which can almost seem to be akin to light bouncing off two mirrors.  This creates the “manger” within where the child of Light is born in the solar plexus.  When the child is born, the animals in the manger; our animal natures; are tame and brought to peace.  Both the humble shepherds and the wise Magi bow down before the Light of the internal Sun.

Looking at this narrative, we might perhaps see a degenerated elite class that pays lip service to the spirit of the Sun, but seeking to hold onto their finite power they keep the religion of Saturn in their fearful hearts.  Like King Herod in the Nativity story, they are perhaps in terror of their own inevitable obsoletion, they have turned to a religion of the old decaying father that tries to devour the new rising Sun/Son.  In contrast we see the spirituality of the virile Sun that is unconquerable and rises through the strong and honorable who have the within them the infinite Life and Love of the Eternal Light of Creation.  This is a spirituality that has undeniably been best embodied in the cultures and consciousness of the Indo-Iranian/Aryan-European peoples, which have been a much-maligned gift to the world.

“The dark shall soon flee from the dells of the earth

So she a wonderful word to us speaks

The day shall again, new made rise from a rosy sky

Saint Lucy, Saint Lucy”

  • The Lucia Song: verse 3 (English Translation)

Something that has gained increasing traction in not only academia, but also in popular culture, is the idea that people of European descent, i.e. “White people”, have no “real” culture of their own.  This idea has largely come out of “Whiteness Studies”, which is an offshoot of Neo-Marxist Critical Theory and has entrenched itself into the worldview of an increasing number of people across the Western world.  If you ask any adherent to this philosophy what “White culture” is, they might respond with words like “patriarchy”, “capitalism”, “oppression”, “privilege”, “cultural appropriation”, “racism”, “exploitation”, etc.  They might even say that White people don’t really have a culture of their own outside of Big Macs and Hollywood movies.

There is perhaps no better, more consolidated example to support this view than the modern Christmas or “Holiday” Season.  Christmas and the Holiday Season, have become synonymous with capitalism, commercialism, consumerism, materialism, and of course, racism.  The myth of the fat old white man going around the world spreading “cheer” by distributing all the latest consumer products the “white” global consumerist market has to offer- this is what Christmas or “The Holidays” are all about in modern consumer society.

Plus, add to that the annual resurgence of all the various debates around whether we say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays” or what skin color Santa and Jesus should have.  One could even argue that the “origins” of Christmas, i.e. the Jesus Nativity story, is a sort of white cultural appropriation as it is a story involving Middle Eastern people in Middle Eastern lands, that is claimed by many white folk as their own.

In the following series, what I am going to lay out here is the case that what has become known as the oppressive “non-culture” of Whiteness, particularly as exemplified by the modern Holiday mythos, is in fact, something that was slowly imposed on “White people”, who in fact DO have a rich cultural tradition that still lives on DESPITE multiple attempts to twist, subvert and eradicate it over the centuries.  I also plan to show how this rich culture, which has been shared with the world in a variety of forms, is also personified by the stories and traditions surrounding what has become known as “Christmas”, and this culture lives on in us in a deep archetypal and spiritual way, and is available to us here and now.

I have written in the past about the Solar myth that forms the spiritual significance of this time of year and the deeper mysteries and parallels of Christianity and the earlier Proto-Indo-European religions.  However, what of the Santa myth that rivals Jesus in cultural significance during this time of year?  What of this seeming archetype of modern “White” patriarchal consumerist globalization?

When it comes to the origins of the figure known as “Santa Claus”, a lot of people immediately gravitate toward the story of St. Nicholas of Myra.  A somewhat legendary figure, St. Nicholas was reputed to have a “legendary habit” of secret gift-giving.  Nicholas was a said to be a Greek Christian in the Byzantine Empire and during lived in the 4th Century A.D.- three to four centuries before the Muslim conquest of the region.  However, some have argued that St. Nicholas was in fact born of wealthy ethnic Black Anatolian “Muurs.

But the origins of what became Santa Claus are in truth much older than that, and originated in a much colder place.  In many parts of pre-Christian Northern and Central Europe, the Winter Solstice was known as the time when Odin or Wotan- the white-bearded ruler of Asgard, led his hunting party across the sky.  Known as “The Wild Hunt”, Odin rode his eight-legged (eight reindeer) steed named Sleipnir, which would leap great distances across the heavens.  During this time, children would leave their boots by the chimney filled with carrots and hay to feed Sleipnir.  In return for their charity, “Odin” would leave the children gifts by their boots.

This night of Odin’s “Wild Hunt” has a counterpart in what is known as Lussinatta, or “The Lussi Night” in Sweden.  This is now celebrated as St. Lucy’s Day and occurs on the 13th of December every year.  However, before the Gregorian Calendar shift, it would have fallen on December 21st– the night of the Winter Solstice.  Some legends suggest that a supernatural female entity was said to ride through the air with her fearsome followers called “Lussiferda” and that it was particularly dangerous to be out on this night.  Misbehaved children had to take special care as Lussi could come down the chimney and take them away, and if certain tasks needed to prepare for Yule were not completed, Lussi would punish the household.

The contrast between Odin who left gifts and Lussi who brought punishment has echoes of the later pair of St. Nicholas/Santa Claus and the Krampus.  Interestingly, some scholars link Krampus, as a member of the fearsome entourage of the ancient Germanic goddess Frau Perchta, who some connect with the ancient Norse goddess, Freya– one of the primary Vanir or old nature gods who some say ruled before the Aesir.

The inclusion of both the fearsome and the festive shows a deep understanding of the dualism inherent in nature that these ancient European peoples possessed- especially during this most perilous time of year.  On the one hand, we have the often harsh and brutal forces of nature during the cold winter months.  And on the other, we have the festive joy that comes from the promise of the return of the Sun.

But if we go even deeper and look at etymology and linguistics, we add another layer of sophistication.  Swedish stems from the Indo-European family of languages, if we sound out the name of Lussi and in particular, her Lussiferda, the name “Lucifer” might perhaps come to mind.  Lucifer, of course, stems from “lux ferre”, which in another Indo-European language, and that is Latin, literally means “light bringing”.  We perhaps see that these ancient Northern Europeans were pointing at how it was the oft-times terrifying darkness that carried the Light that brought life to the world.  This is true not only within Nature, but within the trials and tribulations of our own lives and our own being- the night is darkest before the dawn.  It is the darkness that brings the Light.

We see this deep understanding mirrored in in the Scandinavian Festival of St. Lucy where traditionally a procession is led by a beautiful young lady adorned with a crown or wreath of candles upon her head (although now this is being changed to be morepolitically correct”), bringing the promise of life-giving Light into the darkest night.

The cold and brutal Northern European winter was a time that had the potential to bring starvation and death (and often did).  But with after the passing of the Solstice, the people knew that the days were slowly beginning to grow longer, and the life-giving Sun was growing stronger.

The Norse-Germanic festival of Yule was celebrated from right around the time of the Winter Solstice all the way through the second week in January.  This festival of feasting, drinking and sacrifice was a hallowed tradition among pre-Christian Northern European peoples to whom winter had a special significance that was not held among most others.  Yule was the tradition of a people who were close to the land and intimately tied into the cycles and processes of Nature.

The industrious elves/dwarves, the holly, the mistletoe, and the evergreens that have all become symbols of “Christmas” are all hallmarks of the culture and lore of Northern Europe.  The white of the pure, cleansing snow; the green of the evergreen tree- symbol of the magic of regenerative life; the red of the blood of the sacrifice and the folk; and the gold of the eternal undying Sun; these are the colors that are synonymous with “The Holidays” and they are inseparable from the unique folk consciousness and soul of the Northern European peoples.

These ancient “white” people were a very distinct culture with rich customs and traditions.  However, they would eventually find their culture usurped and altered at the point of a sword by invaders from the south and the east, as well as traitors within their own tribe.  Of course, what I am referring to is the spread of Christianity in Europe.

Christianity moved in slowly at first, with the rather tolerant Northern European pagans accepting and in some cases even adopting the worship of this new “god”, seeing similarities between their deities of similar attributes.  This was commonplace during the old phase of the Roman Empire, where Celtic gods and Roman gods were often mixed and matched.  However, Rome began to use its wealth and influence to spread its influence, bribing local rulers and nobility, who in turn would use their military resources to impose the new religion on their people as well as neighboring tribes.

Another reason this new empire was so successful was that it also became adept at using more subtle tactics, such as co-opting the patron deities of various European peoples and turning them into Christian “saints”.  These figures would be attributed to various good deeds or miracles that made them similar to the deity the church wished to replace.  They would then proclaim the pagan festivals and holy days that used to belong to the old deity as now being a celebration and veneration of that saint.  This is more than likely what happened with figures like Saint Nicholas and Saint Lucy in Northern Europe.

By the end of the 14th century, the entirety of Europe had been converted to Christianity, and even after the split between the Eastern and Western church in 1054 AD, Rome would still control Europe and its people from the British Isles, to Scandinavia, all the way into Hungary and parts of Romania.  Through the church, Rome controlled the people not only through political means, but through the indoctrination of the people into a dogmatic belief system, it by proxy controlled their minds.

The conflict of the incoming Semitic Saturnian religion with that of the Indo-European Solar religion, has in many respects seemed to create a sort of neurosis in the European collective consciousness.  This is could be in part because this was not really an organic spirituality of the people based on their unique relationship to Nature and Spirit, but rather something that was foisted upon them, largely against their will.  This could also be because the totality of what was happening and is continuing to happen with these archetypal forces has not been fully understood and integrated.

The word Matter is derived from the Latin “mater”, meaning origin, source, or mother. According to archaic knowledge, Matter is similar to water or mist in its primal composition. Matter or “Mother” is the Divine Mother/Feminine is the wellspring of life and has long been associated with water. The depths of the feminine aspect of consciousness- the subconscious have a deep, watery nature. She began existence as a mist and became a body of water, akin to a great ocean. This is the Primordial sea that the ancient myths referred to. There are three primary forces that act upon Her to shape the waters of Matter/Mother, and thus shape life “this side of the Veil”.

The first force is that of the cold air of Saturn/Satan. When water is brought into contact with cold air, the molecules begin to slow down and if it is cold enough, will actually harden and freeze. The colder it is, the more solid and dense the frozen water becomes. The mores solid and dense, the less life can move and grow. This is the nature of unrestricted and unchecked Saturn- to act upon Matter/Mother in an external capacity (cold air is dense and travels downwards) until there is no capacity for life. It has been long known that the true nature of Satan or Ahriman (as he is known in Zoroastrianism and by the philosopher Rudolph Steiner) is one of a bone-chilling cold. The sphere of Satan in the great initiate-poet Dante’s “Inferno” is that of a frozen wasteland. He is god of death.

The second force is that which is known as “Lucifer”- the heat of extreme passions. The heat of Lucifer acts from beneath/within Matter, as opposed to above as Saturn/Ahriman does, as the nature of heat and hot air is to rise. Like a burner that heats water to a boil, the unchecked desire nature of Lucifer will do the same. When water is boiled, the molecules move faster, and faster until erupting into a boil. When Lucifer causes the waters of Matter to boil, it too kills all potential for growth and life, sterilizing it as simply the pure substance itself. However, if the water continues to boil unchecked, it is eventually evaporated.

Remember that both hot and cold have to do with the temperatures of air. Air is “mental” in nature, which means the effects of both the cold Saturn and the hot Lucifer can be made subject to the right form of Mind- the evolved Higher Mind. Both forces when left unchecked will cause a state of destructive imbalance in both the micro and the macro sense. It is the balance that the third force brings which creates harmony between Mother/Matter, Saturn and Lucifer.

The third principle is what Rudolph Steiner referred to as the “Christ Impulse”. This Christ Impulse is the Light of Divine Consciousness that is generated from the Source of Creation. It is the Christ Impulse that brings balance to the polarities of Lucifer and Saturn. We can think of Christ as the conscious mind that controls and monitors the temperatures on the stove that heats and the refrigerator that cools.

Understanding and working with the Christ Impulse will supercharge the mind, heart and will of man and transform him into the “Master Alchemist”. It is this Master Alchemist who has the knowledge and the power to cool down the passions of Lucifer and warm up the icy demeanor of Saturn, as it is the Light of Christ that provides us with the “Gnosis” or knowledge as to how to do these things. It is the Master Alchemist, through understanding and mastering these forces, is able to temper Matter itself to his or her Will as it is now synced with the Divine Will. The Master Alchemist understands that Matter, and all things that it produced, are in fact products of Mind- the One Mind that created everything.

Namaste and God Bless.

“In the darkness something was happening at last. A voice had begun to sing. It was very far away and Digory- the first child to explore Narnia- found it hard to decide what direction it was coming. Sometimes it seemed to come from all directions at once… But it was, beyond comparison, the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. It was so beautiful he could hardly bear it… The Voice rose and rose, till the air was shaking with it… The Lion was pacing to and fro about that empty land and singing his new song. And as he walked and sang the valley grew green with grass. It spread out from the Lion like a pool. It ran up the sides of the hills like a wave.”

– from “The Magician’s Nephew” by C.S. Lewis

In recent weeks, animal rights activists, celebrities and the mainstream media in general have been in an absolute furor over the poaching of animal “celebrity”, Cecil the Lion by American dentist and “big game hunter” Dr. Walter Palmer. Much has been made of the way the semi-domesticated Lion met his end, being lured out of the safety of the wildlife refuge he called home, then being shot with a crossbow. The lion then bled and suffered over several hours until he was finally tracked down and shot.

cecil protest

While Palmer admittedly regrets what he did, maintaining that he was deceived by local guides in regards to the legality of the hunt, there have been calls to extradite him to Zimbabwe to face criminal charges. As of writing there have been over 100,000 signatures collected by Palmer’s fellow Americans calling to send the dentist to Zimbabwe to be tried. The Obama administration has promised to investigate the situation.

Mugabe Zimbabwe

It should be noted that Zimbabwe is well known for being an incredibly brutal regime and is on the list of one of the top violators of human rights in the world. The people of Zimbabwe have suffered much under the current regime and live on an average of $900 USD a year. Long-standing (35 years) dictator, Robert Mugabe (whose government collects the money for these big-game safaris) recently condemned “white safaris” while dining on baby elephant at a lavish birthday bash held at his estate. This is also the same Robert Mugabe who once stated “The only white man you can trust, is a dead white man.” While African race-relations is not really the subject today, I think it is worth noting that Dr. Palmer might not be facing what Americans consider “justice” if some get their wish.

800px-Sidney_Hall_-_Urania's_Mirror_-_Leo_Major_and_Leo_MinorWhile the actual killing took place on the first of July, the event wasn’t really brought into the public consciousness until later that month. The slaughter of the Lion in the Mass Mind coincided with the time of year the Sun began to move into the constellation of Leo the Lion according to tropical astrology, which is from July 23 to August 27. With each news story, each televised plea for justice and retribution on the lion’s behalf, he is slaughtered again in the public consciousness, becoming an increasingly powerful symbol or archetype. The archetype transcends mere physical form, able to effect consciousness on a mass scale.

So what is the significance of slaughtering the Lion? Leo the Lion is the astrological sign long equated to the Sun and the Lion itself is an ancient Sun symbol. At the beginning I quoted the writing of C.S Lewis, who was well known to have filled his Narnia Chronicles with esoteric Christian symbolism. Chief among this symbolism is the character of Aslan, the lion king of Narnia. Those who read the books or saw the movies may recall the scene where the Witch and her minions sacrifice Aslan in a dark ritual. We should also recall that Aslan volunteered to be sacrificed, and was then triumphantly resurrected.

The Lion represents the Sun, the Sun is the Christ, and the Christ is the Light of the World- in EVERY sense of the word. To be specific, the Lion represents the Christ as He appeared at the beginning of Creation. He is the Light that “shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.”

In his book, “The Secret History of the World”, author Mark Booth details the esoteric mystery teachings taught by the mystery schools and secret societies over the millennia. Central to the story is the drama of the Sun (Light), Saturn (Darkness) and the Earth (Creation). The following excerpt describes the Sun bringing life to the world after his victory over the darkness:

“In the eye of imagination the Sun is a beautiful and radiant young man with a leonine mane. He rides a chariot and he is a musician. He has many names- Krishna in India, Apollo in Greece. Arising in splendour in the midst of the storm, he pushes back the darkness of Saturn until it becomes like a giant dragon or serpent encircling the cosmos.

The Sun then warms Mother Earth into new life, and as he does so, he gives vent to a great, triumphal roar that reverberates to the outer limits of the cosmos. The roar causes matter in the cosmic womb to vibrate, to dance and form patterns. In inner group esoteric circles this process is sometimes known as ‘the dance of the substances’. After a while it causes matter to coagulate into a variety of strange shapes.

What we are seeing here, then, is the Sun singing the world into existence.”

This primal archetype of raw creative vitality is the first incarnation of the Divine Light that we read about in the Bible. The second incarnation of this Light takes a much more vulnerable form- that of a child. This brings us back to the realm of current events.

Just before the Cecil the Lion story came out, there was the considerably less-covered outrage over the Planned Parenthood videos. For those not familiar, a pro-life group went undercover for a year, posing as representatives from the biotech industry looking to buy aborted infant organs for stem cell harvesting. They then took abortion doctors from Planned Parenthood clinics out to dinner and secretly filmed the doctors agreeing to sell the infant parts and describing how the process is done.

Planned Parenthood has since declared the videos “fraudulent” and the mainstream media has pretty much taken them at their word. It should be noted that while the group are portrayed as a perpetual victim under constant attack from the right, Planned Parenthood has major corporate as well as large foundation sponsorship. Couple this with Planned Parenthood being a steadfast Democratic Party contributor with the president of the organization having made some 39 visits to the White House, and having the very vocal support of the P.O.T.U.S., it is safe to say that Planned Parenthood is very much a part of the power structure and by no means a “defenseless” non-profit.

The scandal not surprisingly created uproar on the right, but was largely dismissed by the left-dominated mainstream. It has incited conservative pundits, Republican legislators and presidential candidates to call for the de-funding of Planned Parenthood and to morally contrast the outrage over aborted human children and the outrage over a poached lion. However, in an editorial article for “The Weekly Standard”, writer Jeffrey Anderson points out that the two stories actually share striking similarities:

“In both cases, the killing was senseless and barbaric. The loss was great, the gain empty, and the means gruesome. In both cases, the victim’s innocence stands in vivid contrast to the killer’s selfishness. The developing children off of whom Planned Parenthood profits have plainly not wronged anyone, and Cecil was a semi-domesticated lion who seemed to like (or at least not to mind) the presence of human beings, often moving within a few feet of them yet never using his great might to cause them harm. And in both cases, the… killer decided that the victim had more value dead and carved up into pieces than alive and whole.”

All that being said, my purpose here is not really to go into an emotional discussion on the ethics of animal trophy hunting or abortion. I do see trophy hunting as a lack of reverence and a reaffirmation of separation from nature. Likewise I do see the media reactions and non-reactions as a way of re-affirming what could best be described as a continued devaluation of human life in mainstream culture. But I also understand that with all events and stories that are brought into the Mass Mind, there are multiple levels upon which the drama takes place and can be understood, as well as multiple ways in which the energy created can be utilized.

As I stated earlier, the second incarnation of the Christ was that of the Divine Child. The child represents innocence and purity. The younger the child, the closer he/she is to pure virgin consciousness. When we first incarnate as infants in the womb, before we develop identity, speech, memory, etc. that is what we are: pure virgin awareness and spirit incarnated in flesh. It is this pure, wordless awareness that is the place we return to when we are in deep meditation. It is this purest form of life energy that has been the target of human child sacrifice over the millennia. When a blood sacrifice is made, life force energy is freed from the physical body, available to be transformed, transmuted and/or absorbed.

With the Planned Parenthood controversy, we have the sacrifice of the archetype of the Divine Child, another aspect of the Christ, in the Collective Psyche. With these sorts of “institutionalized sacrifices”, we have people conducting them who are largely unaware of the symbolism behind what they are doing or the energy released by doing it. So is the result of materialism and separation. But I might suggest that not everyone within the power structure is so ignorant to the deeper meaning of procedural sacrifice.

So thus far we have the “public” sacrifice of the Lion of Leo; the Lion of the Sun, coinciding with the sacrifice of the Divine Child that is done in a more secretive, hidden or “occulted” manner. Both of these archetypes being aspects of the Christ, who is the Sun, and the timing of these sacrifices being brought into public consciousness is taking place around the time when the Sun is moving into the constellation of Leo, which is the sign of the Sun. If you recall my previous posting, the ancient Lammas or Lughnassadh holy day is a Sun festival that takes place around August 1st, and this festival was indeed a festival of sacrifice.

So you might ask, “who” is behind these “sacrifices” in the physical world as well as the psychic and archetypal realms and why? For clues we look to the words of renowned 19th century philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in his masterwork, “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” and its discourse entitled “Of the Three Metamorphoses”:

“But in the loneliest desert the second metamorphosis occurs: the spirit here becomes a lion; it wants to capture freedom and be lord in its own desert.

It seeks here its ultimate lord: it will be an enemy to him and to its ultimate God, it will struggle for victory with the great dragon.

What is the great dragon which the spirit no longer wants to call lord and God? The great dragon is called ‘Thou shalt’. But the spirit of the lion says ‘I will!’

‘Thou shalt’ lies in its path, sparkling with gold, a scale covered beast, and on every scale glitters golden ‘Thou shalt’.

Values of a thousand years glitter on the scales, and thus speaks the mightiest of all dragons: ‘All the values of things- glitter on me.

‘All values have already been created, and all created values- are in me. Truly, there shall be no more ‘I will’!’ Thus speaks the dragon.

My brothers, why is the lion needed in the spirit? Why does the beast of burden, that renounces and is reverent, not suffice?

To create new values- even the lion is incapable of that: but to create itself freedom for new creation- that the might of the lion can do.

To create freedom for itself and a sacred No even to duty: the lion is needed for that, my brothers.”

lionbeatingdragonRecall the earlier quote from Mark Booth’s “Secret History of the World” in which he states how the Sun Lion, i.e. the Christos in His primordial form, “pushes back the darkness of Saturn until it becomes like a giant dragon or serpent encircling the cosmos.”

Nietzsche’s dragon is Saturn- the god of limitations, materialism and death. He is the god of “thou shalt” indicating he is the father of laws and time. The robes of the ancient orders of Saturn were black robes. What color is a judge’s robe? The dragon’s scales glittered of gold and he boasted as to how he had established the value of all things. This is materialist economics and social ordering that establishes law for its own sake. He is the father of lies, as the big lie is that the material world is all that there is. He is the reaper with his scythe, as death is the ultimate limitation.

This is a force that is beyond the physical planet that bears its name. This is the force that is synonymous with what Christ Jesus referred to as “the god of this world”. This coincides with Saturn’s title among the ancients as “Rex Mundi”, or King of the World. Saturn is Satan, Satan is Saturn, and the power structure that has dominated this planet for millennia is subservient to his aims, which is nothing less than the calcification of matter and the elimination of the Spirit of Life and Higher Consciousness. This has been the aim of the Saturnine darkness from the very beginning.

The Light, Life and Love that is the Great Christ is by its very nature in direct opposition to the forces of Saturn. Likewise the forces of Saturn want nothing more than to continually assert their dominance over Light, Life and Love at every opportunity and on every level of consciousness.

To Saturnian consciousness, the public slaughter of the Lion in Leo represents a symbolic “defeat” of Saturn’s ancient nemesis from time immemorial in this continual “cosmic war”. We can also see it as the attempt to crush the impulse of freedom that stands in opposition to the dragon, as seen in Nietzsche’s “Of the Three Metamorphoses”. Through the archetypal death of the Sun Lion, Saturn would have us believe that all hope is lost, and that his order is all that there is and ever will be. However, this “defeat” is nothing more than an illusion, as that is really all Saturn has in the end, as the Sun/Son proves to us that death is the ultimate illusion.

myth-cronus-1620-RubensThe symbolism behind the more “occulted” and obfuscated practices of the abortion industry have their roots in the ancient story of Saturn or Chronos (think chronology) devouring his own children for fear of the prophecy that one of them had the divine potential to overthrow and kill him. Saturn/Satan continually seeks to devour these strong life energies as he continues his war against the Sun/Son, as each human contains the Sun/Son of Man- that Divine Light, which is the core of every human being.

In Nietzsche’s “Of the Three Metamorphoses”, it is the child that is the final metamorphoses of spirit. This is because “The child is innocence and forgetfulness, a new beginning, a sport, a self-propelling wheel, a first motion, a sacred Yes… Yes, a sacred Yes is needed, my brothers, for the sport of creation: the spirit now wills its own will, the spirit sundered from the world now wins its own world.”

Saturn attempts to destroy what has the power and potential to overthrow him. The child represents the fresh start of a new age, a new paradigm. Saturn is always the representation of the old age and paradigm that always wants to hold on to power and will do so through the most deceptive, subversive and brutal of means. This narrative can be found in the slaughter of newborn children by King Herod in his attempts to snuff out the true “king” who was Christ Jesus. But in the end, this desperate attempt to cling to power is always a fruitless venture. We are at the end of the Kali Yuga- the Age of darkness and materialism, and the end of the Age will happen no matter what these forces try and do.

divine child of the ages

However, Saturn is not just destruction for destruction’s sake, he serves a purpose. Mark Booth explains “Saturn’s intervention introduced into creation… the potential for individual objects to exist- and therefore the transition from formlessness to form. In other words, because of Saturn there is a law of identity in the universe…”

If it was not for the force of Saturn continuously working to pull spirit into dense matter, we would not be able to experience form and do the Great Work of purifying all levels of existence through thought, word and deed. While on the one hand, the forces of this world can seem geared toward devolution and annihilation, and they are; but from a higher perspective we can see that these “pressures” are needed to refine us into a more powerful expression of Spirit in this world. This means that the energy of destruction and darkness can be used for positive ends.

While many mourn the loss of life that has occurred, we should remember that in this sort of sacrificial death one has potential to become immortalized and have greater impact than they had in physical life. That is why martyrs are so powerful. Consciousness can take the archetypal energy that is unleashed in the sacrifice and utilize it for the purpose of change and creation of something new. This is why the Saturnian power structure hates martyrs and attempts to subvert and obfuscate the movements they create.

Sacrifice is an inherent principle that exists in nature, as elements, plants, and even animals sacrifice of themselves in some form or fashion to create and maintain the Web of Life. Saturn plays a pivotal role in this, as it is “because of Saturn’s influence that everything that lives contains the seeds of its own end” (Mark Booth; Secret History of the World). However, there also the sacrifice of the mindsets of materialism and separation- the things in us that belong to Saturn that allow us greater power and vitality; this is the example of the Sun/Son. The struggle for balance of higher and lower natures of man can be seen in the 8th card of the Major Arcanum in the Tarot, “Strength”.

maj08I am not going to come out and say that Cecil the Lion or the aborted infants chose on a spiritual level to be sacrificed as part of some greater cosmic plan simply because I don’t know. But there is indeed always a greater cosmic plan and it is played out in the transition from one Age to the next, in which ALL beings play a role. This is the duel of Saturn/Satan and the Sun/Son, which will continue until all things return to the Source of All.

On the cosmic scale of time, it is the Old Age itself that becomes the sacrifice, even though its Saturnian instinct causes it to scrape and claw to hold on. Meanwhile the New Age is born as the Divine Child. This cannot be done without the victory of the Lion of freedom over the Dragon of tyranny. The Ages are shifting, and Saturn is slowly going to lose his grip on the world. He will always try and perform his parlor tricks and we need to be aware of them, so we don’t find ourselves under his spell. However, once you know the magician’s secret, it isn’t magic anymore.

Namaste and God Bless.
